Identifying Reliable Sources and Citing Them | Scholastic.com

Identifying Reliable Sources and Citing Them | Scholastic.com | Transliterate | Scoop.it
This may not sound like the most exciting topic for a post, but I can assure you that it is a critical one.
Chanelle Savich's insight:

Interesting article about dividing a class into two groups to do research--one group using sources in the Learning Center or collected by the librarian, the other using only Google and the results. I don't know that I'd restrict the first group to a set of items selected by the librarian (even though I am one) because they need to know how to search on their own; maybe introduce a new database or a list of reliable sources . . . .?

How would you fill an Edcanvas? — @joycevalenza NeverEndingSearch | Transliterate | Scoop.it

Via Maggie Kimpel Bokelman
Chanelle Savich's insight:

Unlike Scoop.it, Edcanvas allows you to add and easily manipulate items of all types (local files, websites, Google Docs, etc.) which you are collecting into a unit. The two social media tools serve different purposes, but I think Edcanvas will be useful for units of instruction in a way that Scoop.it is not.

Sugata Mitra: The child-driven education | Video on TED.com

TED Talks Education scientist Sugata Mitra tackles one of the greatest problems of education -- the best teachers and schools don't exist where they're needed most.
Chanelle Savich's insight:

This is what good homeschooling is like. You don't need a computer, either. A good library will do the trick. They just need access to lots of different information in whatever format strikes their fancy. Just saying.

Been there, done that with great success.
