Exclusive timelapse: See climate change, deforestation and urban sprawl unfold as Earth evolves over 30 years.
Chanelle Savich's insight:

A huge undertaking by Google and Time to show change over time by matching up Google Earth images and USGS  images. From the Google Blog:

"Today, we're making it possible for you to go back in time and get a stunning historical perspective on the changes to the Earth’s surface over time. Working with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), NASA and TIME, we're releasing more than a quarter-century of images of Earth taken from space, compiled for the first time into an interactive time-lapse experience. We believe this is the most comprehensive picture of our changing planet ever made available to the public."

The More You Automate, The Less You Curate: Sense-Making Requires Manual Effort

The More You Automate, The Less You Curate: Sense-Making Requires Manual Effort | Transliterate | Scoop.it
Chanelle Savich's insight:

This article requires more thought; I like Scoop.it for myself and for saving things I really find thought provoking, but I'm very hesitant to have kids use it--it's too easy to scoop without reading or adding any value. How do we get to the high value, "manual" approach? Take another read through this article and determine how that can be done. I like the graphics, but I think more research needs to be done to explore what the author is saying briefly here.

What motivates us at work? 7 fascinating studies that give insights | TED Blog | Transliterate | Scoop.it
Dan Ariely studies what motivates us when it comes to our work. Here a look at 3 of his studies—and 3 from other researchers.
Chanelle Savich's insight:

Simple changes that we can make in order to make our work places and classrooms more motivating for students. It certainly suggests to me that making kids struggle a bit isn't a bad thing. That's what makes them proudest -- when they are able to accomplish the hard thing.
