In a true inquiry-based model, how learning happens isn’t as important as whether that learning encourages students to try to learn even more. Lehmann compared the scenario to the plight of atwo-year-old child who has graduated from “yes” and “no” and proceeded onto an endless string of “why’s.”

 

“To me it comes down to process,” Lehmann said. “Inquiry means living in the soup. Inquiry means living in that uncomfortable space where we don’t know the answer.”

Fifteen-year-old Tavi Gevinson had a hard time finding strong female, teenage role models -- so she built a space where they could find each other.
Chanelle Savich's insight:

Books, a blog, TED talk, Colbert interview -- teens and pre-teens can see writing in action, multimedia, self-expression, and a high school sophomore who is using these avenues because she has something to say. She wasn't from a famous family; she garnered attention because she stepped outside of the minimum requirements, thought about the world, the media, and her place in society and went beyond wishing she could express herself. She did it. And people noticed. Tavi is a transliterate teen; can we help other teens take the plunge and express their strong opinions on things which matter to them?
