Greg Mudd's curator insight, June 3, 2013 10:59 AM

Coding is an essential skill in this technology driven world and is an extremely useful skill for everyone to learn... it's such a shame that many schools still don't offer coding classes until high school and even then the classes are fairly rudimentary and in some areas has the stigma of being for nerds which is a real shame.

"With this new application in Google Docs ( Drive ), teachers can now record their audio comments and share them with their students. I see this as a better way to give feedback on students' work and I do believe there are things we can express with our voice that no written code could ever capture like the tone and intonation..etc."

Update/Tip: I tried it out-if you have to change your original document-just copy it and add voice to it-121 Writing doesn't sync with your Google Docs updates.

Instructors are always looking for ways to add audio feedback-I'd much prefer adding voice messages to my student's Google Docs then just text like I have in the past.

Such wonderful ideas and sometimes all it takes is a few more curves and yet I find myself wondering, where is the balance between spaces carved out for physical play and those for imaginative play (in between the covers of a book). How do we divide the spaces such that children who want to play can play and others who want a place to hide and read can cuddle up in a cosy corner.
