Getting a filetype preview… How the new filetype preview in Studio 2017 saves time in importing files with custom format (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
One of my favourite features in Studio 2017 is the filetype preview.  The time it can save when you are creating custom filetypes comes from the fun in using it.  I can fill out all the rules and switch between the preview and the rules editor without having to continually close the options, open the file,…

Terminology mining from Eur-Lex corpora: extracting terms and term research (by Marek Pawelec)

Terminology mining from Eur-Lex corpora: extracting terms and term research (by Marek Pawelec) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
The conference #TranslatingEurope Forum 2016 was held on October 27-28 in Brussels. Besides presentations, the conference included two sessions of mini-workshops: the idea was to present some practical aspect of translation in small group – three people at a time. The workshops included my submission on terminology mining. I realized from the start that participants won’t be able to remember anything from 15-minute session with three different software tools, I have prepared handouts with some background information I had no time to introduce and description of all steps presented in the procedure. Since the workshop was quite popular (all groups were far larger than 3), I’m publishing somewhat extended version of the handout, which is available here.

Marek Pawelec describes options for using European Union legislative acts as terminology reference materials during translation.

memoQ autotranslatables: a partial antidote for drudgery – speeding up translation through use of regular expressions (by Kevin Lossner) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
I'm currently working on a stack of legal pleadings for a patent nullity suit – lots of "urgent" words to churn by the end of the week. And after 10,000 or so of them, I got pretty damned tired of typing out the translation of text citations of the form "Spalte 7, Zeilen 34 bis 45" as "Column 7, Lines 34 to 45". In such situations, I try not to get mad but to get an autotranslatable ruleset instead. This is perhaps one of the most under-utilized productivity tools in memoQ...

Kevin Lossner explains how a translator can speed up the translation process and improve QA through clever use of autotranslation rules in memoQ.
