XML translation – part 2: memoQ (by Marek Pawelec)

XML translation – part 2: memoQ (by Marek Pawelec) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

In my previous post I’ve described what is XML, what is it for and what are the particular components. This time I’m going to show you how to properly import almost any XML file into memoQ for translation. I’m going to reference the files described in previous part, so you might want to look there for comparison and file structure description...

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Marek Pawelec explains how to import various types of XML documents into memoQ. He explains a number of special cases: tags which are treated as inline (shown in memoQ as a tag), tags whose content is non-translatable, tags which should be translated selectively depending on the value of their attribute, translatable tag attributes, etc.

First steps with memoQ 2015 (video) (by Dominique Pivard)

First steps with memoQ 2015 (video) (by Dominique Pivard) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

This video shows how to translate a Word document from scratch in memoQ 2015, using a project template. A new project (Finnish-English) is created from the One TM per client standard template: the document is added to the project, two translation memories are automatically created (a Project TM and a Master TM), as well as a new termbase. Before translating, a third TM is (manually) created and the content of a TMX reference TM is imported into it. Sample bilingual terminology from an Excel sheet is also imported into the termbase created by the template. The document is translated interactively, using such features as predictive typing, autopick, fragment assembly, auto-propagation, fuzzy matches and concordance search. Finally, the wrap up feature available in projects created through templates is used to send all translations to the Master TM, to delete the Project TM and to export the translated document...

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

This video demonstrates some of the main features of memoQ as well as the project templates feature that expedites creation and finalization of translation projects.

Segmentation rules for text with footnote / endnote references (memoQ, SDL Trados Studio) (by Marek Pawelec) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

If you happen to translate text with numbered references, you’ve probably encountered problem with incorrect segmentation when the reference number is placed just after end of sentence period, like this:

This is an example sentence.⊃2; With a second sentence added.

Marek Pawelec offers a solution for those who translate documents with lots of footnote / endnote references at the end of final punctuation (as is common in English). The segmentation rules work in memoQ and SDL Trados Studio.

The new Match Patch feature in memoQ 2015 (by Dominique Pivard)

The new Match Patch feature in memoQ 2015 (by Dominique Pivard) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

Under certain conditions, memoQ 2015 is able to “repair” (“fix”, “patch”) fuzzy matches. When a new source segment only differs from an already translated segment on one or two words that are found in a termbase, memoQ will yield an “enhanced” match rate for a fuzzy match that attempts to fix the differences. Such enhanced match rates are preceded by an exclamation mark.

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Dominique Pivard demonstrates the new Match Patch feature in memoQ 2015 which automatically repairs fuzzy matches with results coming from termbases and other resources.
