XML translation – part 2: memoQ (by Marek Pawelec)

XML translation – part 2: memoQ (by Marek Pawelec) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

In my previous post I’ve described what is XML, what is it for and what are the particular components. This time I’m going to show you how to properly import almost any XML file into memoQ for translation. I’m going to reference the files described in previous part, so you might want to look there for comparison and file structure description...

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Marek Pawelec explains how to import various types of XML documents into memoQ. He explains a number of special cases: tags which are treated as inline (shown in memoQ as a tag), tags whose content is non-translatable, tags which should be translated selectively depending on the value of their attribute, translatable tag attributes, etc.

Mikes, mice and monitors (by Claire Cox) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
In the present-day translation community there is a huge emphasis on various types of software, such as CAT tools, translation management software, speech recognition software and pdf conversion tools, to name but a few. Yet I think we sometimes forget about the hardware side of our armoury, even though this can be just as essential…
Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

The seven values of memoQ Adriatic for translators and reviewers (by Balázs Kis, from memoQ blog)

The seven values of memoQ Adriatic for translators and reviewers (by Balázs Kis, from memoQ blog) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
Before memoQ Adriatic was released, I was the lucky one to use it in production: I had reviewed the text that memoQ shows you in menus and windows, and I had prepared the project to update the localization of all this text. I could also check the new versions of the instruction manuals against our master translation memories.
Stanislav Okhvat's insight:
Balázs Kis summarizes some of the new features of memoQ Adriatic (memoQ 8):
1) comparison between the source text of the TM result and the current source segment,
2) fuzzy match filter which displays segments whose match percentage is within a certain range,
3) ability to translate Word documents with tracked changes more accurately,
4) tracking changes in memoQ,
5) new features introduced just before the release of memoQ Adriatic (regular expressions in QA rules, easy insertion of custom tags).

Free shareable, searchable glossaries for collaboration with anyone – how to search in glossaries based on Google Spreadsheets using Intelliwebsearch and similar tools (by Kevin Lossner)

Free shareable, searchable glossaries for collaboration with anyone – how to search in glossaries based on Google Spreadsheets using Intelliwebsearch and similar tools (by Kevin Lossner) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

Some years ago I suggested a procedure using Google spreadsheets for glossary collaboration in projects. Many people do this sort of thing now. What I do not think most are doing, however, is accessing these web-based term lists efficiently as terminology resources in their work. It's hard to compete with the efficiency of integrated termbases, TMs, web search features, etc. ... unless of course you integrate a web search for those online spreadsheets which returns just the few data of interest.

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:
Kevin Lossner describes how to search in online glossaries based on Google Spreadsheets by using Intelliwebsearch, web research solutions integrated in CAT tools (e.g., memoQ Web Search) or other tools.

New SDL Analyse application for quick word count analysis (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
There's been a few ups and downs getting SDL Analyse off the ground, but it's finally there and it's worth it!  If you have no idea what I'm referring to then perhaps review this article first for a little history.  This app was actually released as the 200th app on the SDL AppStore in February…
