New features in TransTools 3.9: New TransTools for PowerPoint plug-in with Tag Cleaner, Unbreaker and Change Language tools

New features in TransTools 3.9: New TransTools for PowerPoint plug-in with Tag Cleaner, Unbreaker and Change Language tools | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

TransTools v.3.9 has been released. The new version introduces three new tools for Microsoft PowerPoint:

1) Tag Cleaner re-formats your PowerPoint presentations in order to minimize tags displayed when you import the presentation into your CAT tool. At the same time, the tool attempts to retain the original appearance of presentations as much as possible.

2) Unbreaker helps you find incorrect breaks in PowerPoint presentations and quickly remove them. This prevents segmentation issues in CAT tools and generally improves the formatting of presentations even if no CAT tools are used.

3) Change Language tool makes it easy to apply a specific spellchecking language to a presentation. This may be necessary if your presentation uses incorrect spellchecking languages and you want to check spelling or prevent red squiggly underlines in text marked with a wrong language.

In addition to the above updates, the latest version of TransTools includes several bug fixes in TransTools for Word.

For more information, go to http://www.translatortools.net/news/features_v3.9.html

Paying it forward with MS Publisher files – Translating MS Publisher documents in CAT tools using the new pub2xml application (by Paul Filkin)

Paying it forward with MS Publisher files – Translating MS Publisher documents in CAT tools using the new pub2xml application (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

Microsoft Publisher is an entry-level desktop publishing application from Microsoft. It’s actually quite a neat application for newbies to desktop publishing like me, but it’s a difficult tool to handle if you receive *.pub files (the format used by MS Publisher) and are asked to translate them.

In the past I would have suggested T-Windows for Clipboard for translating such files. But now there is a new application available, pub2xml, which also supports the latest versions of MS Publisher and it also provides some nice touches making it far easier to use.  It’s also free, but still requires MS Publisher to be on your machine.

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Paul Filkin explains how to use pub2xml application to translate MS Publisher documents. The application generates an XML file that can be translated with any CAT tool, although Paul describes the workflow for translating these files inside SDL Trados Studio.

memoQ auto-translatables for numbers (by Marek Pawelec): how to define a strict rule for automatic number format conversion | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

One of the advanced memoQ features is Auto-translatables: using regular expressions you can define how certain source text should be modified in target language. It used to be the most basic auto-translatable application – it’s not needed so much now, since memoQ offers automatic, out-of-box number format conversion. Sometimes it’s still more convenient to use auto-translatables for format conversion...

In this post, Marek Pawelec shares downloadable rules for strict conversion of numbers from English to Polish and explains how to adapt these rules for your language direction. He also offers a set of more advanced rules which can help translate telephone numbers, percentage values and temperatures (°C and °F).
