Retro apps… SDL Trados Studio apps for working with legacy Trados formats or replicating Trados 2007 functionality (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
SDL Trados Studio is up to Studio 2017 which is the fifth major version since Studio 2009 was first released some eight years ago now.  During these eight years I think it's fair to say we have seen less and less requirement for the old Trados features, yet despite that we do see some interesting…

InSource! Bringing in your source content: importing content into Studio automatically (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

InSource! is a new application on the SDL AppStore which does a little simple automation in Studio. If you’re a busy Project Manager with multiple clients and Project templates then you might find it really helpful. The basic idea is around the use of “watch folders”. Studio will “watch” these locations and can check them to see if files and folders arrive, importing them automatically.

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:
Paul Filkin describes InSource!, a new OpenExchange application for SDL Trados Studio 2015 Professional which automatically imports new documents from "watched folders" via your custom project templates.

All SDL OpenExchange apps summarized (by Mats Linder)

All SDL OpenExchange apps summarized (by Mats Linder) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

The OpenExchange concept is a brilliant idea, but navigating the OpenExchange site is a bit unwieldy. Hence the table below, which presents all plugins/applications all at once; you can also sort them by clicking on the column headers. The OE links give direct access to the respective OpenExchange presentation page, and the Developer information gives direct access to the respective developer (if possible – in a few cases no link is available; and the SDL developers do not give such access)...

X-CAT... the next generation? (by Paul Filkin)

X-CAT... the next generation? (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

Translation tools, like Trados, Wordfast, DVX and memoQ are all flexible and useful applications in their own right.  They can all do pretty much what’s expected of them for the majority of their users within the boundaries of their intended purpose.  But what happens if your needs go a little outside of these capabilities… what happens if the “standard” you have used for years changes and you have a client who wishes to use it immediately because it brings long awaited capability?… what happens if your best client decides to use a translation management system you don’t have, and you don’t want to use either?… what happens if you want to improve your business processes by integrating all your dispirit workflows into one?… what happens if you simply prefer to use a different tool for part of the process that “could” be handled in your chosen CAT?… what happens if you have a client who wants you to adopt a relatively obscure Machine Translation capability because it’s designed purely for the work they do?

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Paul Filkin explains some of the conceptual benefits of SDL OpenExchange system and provides examples of OpenExchange apps that tap into the vast possibilities of SDL API.
