Square pegs in round holes… How to merge Multiterm termbases (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
It's all about the termbase definition when you want to merge termbases, or import data into MultiTerm termbases.  The XDT... otherwise known as the MultiTerm Termbase Definition file is the key to being able to ensure you are not trying to knock square pegs into round holes!  I've written in the past about the flexibility of…

Yanks versus Brits... linguistically speaking! Setting up forbidden terms in Trados Studio (by Paul Filkin)

Yanks versus Brits... linguistically speaking! Setting up forbidden terms in Trados Studio (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

The concept of forbidden terms has been discussed quite a bit over the last few days in TW_Users, so I thought it might be a good idea to take some of the ideas some users shared with me around what would be useful to know when working with MultiTerm and tie it into the concept of Forbidden Terms.

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Paul Filkin explains (and shows in a video) how to set up a Multiterm termbase which could be used to detect forbidden terms during the QA step of the translation process.

Tackling Studio 2014 Terminology Editing Delay, but it comes with a (small) Sacrifice (Translation Therapy blog)

Tackling Studio 2014 Terminology Editing Delay, but it comes with a (small) Sacrifice (Translation Therapy blog) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

The release of Studio 2014 brought about some great new features and performance gain that to me finally turn Studio into a mature Translation Environment Tool, but was also accompanied by one major issue, as soon after the release of Studio 2014 along came the now infamous Java Update 45 that broke pretty much the entire terminology editing functionality in Studio and MultiTerm. With the recent release of Cumulative Update 2 the incompatibility issue between Studio and MultiTerm 2014, and the latest Java version is now solved, for the most part anyway, but another nuisance that was introduced with Studio 2014 – the delay when trying to add or edit terms in a termsbase, remains unchanged...

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Shai Nave (Translation Therapy blog owner) explains the root cause of noticeable delays when adding or editing terms in SDL Trados Studio 2014 and shows a workaround for this problem.

How to search a MultiTerm termbase within Trados Studio (by Jayne Fox)

How to search a MultiTerm termbase within Trados Studio (by Jayne Fox) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

"

Do you translate using Trados Studio? Do you know how to search a MultiTerm termbase within Studio? Read on to learn more.

I’m a huge fan of terminology databases and use them for all my translation projects. I find that a good termbase helps me to translate faster, because it enables me to insert terms into my translation very easily. As well as storing complex terms, I also add frequently used terms to my termbase, to make sure that I’m using them consistently throughout my translation.

I agree with Jost Zetzsche’s comment on the value of termbases, made during one of his recent webinars: “If I had to choose between giving up all of my translation memory data or all of my terminology data, I would always give up my translation memory data rather than ..."
