IATE terminology database – the last word... maybe! (by Paul Filkin)

IATE terminology database – the last word... maybe! (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

By now I think we've discussed the import of an IATE TBX into CAT tools as much as we can without going over old ground again.  But if you're reading this and don't know what I'm talking about then...

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Paul Filkin provides another useful article on importing IATE terminology database into various CAT tools. Since IATE published the entire EU terminology database in TBX format, there have been a number of articles on how to import this huge database into CAT tools. This article summarizes the latest developments in specialized tools for glossary import (Glossary Converter for SDL Trados Studio) and individual efforts to make this database more "digestible".

How to use IATE database in TBX format with the help of XBench (in Italian) - Novità IATE | Tra di noi (by Stefano KaliFire) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Very informative article on how to make use of the IATE terminology database with the help of XBench. Although this post is in Italian, Google Translate translates this web page quite well (post the URL into the form at translate.google.com).

What a whopper! IATE terminology database import process for SDL Trados Studio (by Paul Filkin)

What a whopper! IATE terminology database import process for SDL Trados Studio (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

The analogy for me was brought home this week when I discovered that IATE (InterActive Terminology for Europe) had made a download available for the EU’s inter-institutional terminology database. You can go and get a copy right now from here – Download IATE . The file is only 118 Mb zipped so you can import it straight into your favourite CAT and use it as a glossary to help your productivity! Great idea… but unzipped it’s a 2.2Gb TBX file containing around 8 million terms in 24 official EU languages...

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Paul Filkin goes through a long process of importing IATE database into SDL Trados Studio.

Using IATE just got easier! (from EP Terminology Coordination Unit)

Using IATE just got easier! (from EP Terminology Coordination Unit) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

Technical changes are afoot in the IATE public interface, making the inter-institutional terminology database easier to use than ever.

One new feature is the implementation of predictive spelling in the search bar – making it faster and easier than ever to search IATE. After typing three letters, IATE Public does a “pre-search” of the database and proposes suggestions in a drop-down list.

In addition, IATE public is now updated in real-time – previously updates were only inserted once a month.

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:
