Marian Gowan is Dare Ford's right-hand woman.

Both members of the Chocolate Scribblers, a local writing group, Gowan has been helping Ford get her writing onto the page since 2007.

"This girl has been my Earth angel," Ford says. "She hits the floor running once she opens the door — it's an uplifting thing."

For the past 20 years, Ford has been coping with the effects of multiple sclerosis and has gradually lost the use of much of her body.

After losing the use of her right hand, she learned to write with her left.
