The position is situated in the English Translation Section, Division of Conference Management, United Nations Office at Geneva.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of Section and in close cooperation with the other terminologists, the Terminologist will be responsible for the following :
Monitoring documentation and other materials and identifies changes, developments, linguistic inconsistencies and variations in different areas of terminology used in the United Nations
Developing new terminology for use where none exists in the target language.
Contributing English terms and titles, along with definitions and notes, to the terminology database; will be responsible for the relevance and accuracy of this data.
Continuous cleaning and maintenance of the terminology database, in cooperation with the other terminologists and terminology assistants.
Supervising the Terminology Assistant and validating the records he/she creates.
Carrying out linguistic research on behalf of the Section's terminology quality circles and compiling material for discussion by them.
