Five decades after his death, Nikos Kazantzakis remains Greece’s best-known writer outside of his native country. His books have been translated into nearly forty languages and several, most notably Zorba the Greek and The Last Temptation of Christ, have been turned into successful movies. In this course we will explore Kazantzakis’ world though a number of his most acclaimed works of fiction. This is a good elective for anyone interested in literature, religion, cultural history, and, of course, Greece. All readings will be in English.
The course is WLLC 398V Special Studies (3 credit hours), and the class meets from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
