Urine Powered Generator

Four young Nigerian girls have invented a generator that runs on urine.

The invention was first displayed in Lagos, November, 2012, at the 4th annual Maker Faire, a pan-African innovation fair. Three 14-year-olds, Duro-Aina Adebola, Akindele Abiola, Faleke Oluwatoyin and 15-year-old Bello Eniola are the inventors.

The system separates urine into nitrogen, water and hydrogen.
Urine is put into an electrolytic cell, which separates out the hydrogen.
The hydrogen goes into a water filter for purification, which then gets pushed into the gas cylinder.
The gas cylinder pushes hydrogen into a cylinder of liquid borax, which is used to remove the moisture from the hydrogen gas.
This purified hydrogen gas is pushed into the generator.
The girls say that one liter of urine gives six hours of electricity. But they do not specify exactly how much electricity is produced; enough to run a 60 watt light bulb, or a fridge and computer for six hours? We excitedly await more news...

Throughout the mechanism there are one-way valves for safety. Without the safety valves, this generator could be explosive, as hydrogen is flammable. ;-[

Smart Solar Oven Platform

Smart Solar Oven Platform | Transición | Scoop.it

This instructable describes how to build a rotating platform that is controlled by an Arduino microcontroller. It follows the Sun until the food has cooked for a
predetermined amount of time and then it will turn the oven away from the Sun. I've only had a few opportunities to use it, because our rainy season just started, but I am
very pleased with the results and I can't wait for more opportunities to use it. After spending so much time on a project, it's very gratifying to know that it will actually be
useful.

FreshPaper was created by a young inventor who happened upon the active ingredients after accidentally drinking some tap water while visiting her grandmother in India. Her grandma gave her a home remedy - a mixture of spices, which kept her from getting sick. (Click here to hear the story in her own words.)

After years of research and development, (starting with a middle school science project!), she discovered a new application of her grandmother's generations-old home remedy - a remarkably effective way to keep food fresh!

Fenugreen was founded in 2010. It all startedwith handmade batches of FreshPaper handed out at the farmer's markets and street fairs in Cambridge, MA.

Today, Fenugreen FreshPaper is used by farmers and families across the globe, andFenugreen is establishing initiatives to benefit local food banks in the U.S. and small-scale farmers in the developing world.

Fenugreen is a social enterprise with the mission of “Fresh for All.”

Nuevos Productos Para El Ahorro De Energía

Nuevos Productos Para El Ahorro De Energía | Transición | Scoop.it
