I tried split-screen multitasking on the iPad, and here's what I discovered

I tried split-screen multitasking on the iPad, and here's what I discovered | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

Over the last week I’ve discovered to my great disappointment that split-screen multitasking on the iPad has not been helpful. If anything, it has detracted from my ability to work.

I like to browse my Twitter feed and surf the web at the same time on my Mac, so I thought the habit would translate well to the iPad, right? Nope. The main problem is that the iPad Air’s screen size just isn’t big enough. My eyes are good with glasses, but text was pretty difficult to read even on the Retina display. I can’t imagine trying it on the iPad mini.

Split-screen multitasking on the iPad begins to make much more sense when Apple starts making bigger and bigger screen sizes. A 13-inch iPad that can run apps side by side? There could be some real appeal there, especially for the enterprise, where the idea of traditional, desktop multitasking still reigns supreme.

But in the state we’re in now, multitasking on the iPad is the way it should be: one app at a time.

AdSense leak controversy heats up as Google denies favoritism, theft allegations

AdSense leak controversy heats up as Google denies favoritism, theft allegations | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

Someone claiming to be a former employee of Google claims the internet giant has systematically robbed its AdSense clients -- an allegation Google has quickly denied.

On Pastebin Tuesday, April 29, an individual published Google AdSense Leak, a detailed timeline of events alleging that Google knowingly shuts down AdSense accounts to pocket the money and plays favorites with its "VIPs."

The unsubstantiated screed spans 2009-2012 and accuses AdWords of maintaining a list of accounts that operate outside the AdSense ToS rules, another list of accounts that are treated discriminatorily, and that high-earning accounts are deliberately banned before payouts.

A Large Part of the Internet Compromised by the Heartbleed Bug

A Large Part of the Internet Compromised by the Heartbleed Bug | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

The Heartbleed Bug is a serious vulnerability in the popular OpenSSL cryptographic software library. This weakness allows stealing the information protected, under normal conditions, by the SSL/TLS encryption used to secure the Internet. SSL/TLS provides communication security and privacy over the Internet for applications such as web, email, instant messaging (IM) and some virtual private networks (VPNs).

This bug was independently discovered by a team of security engineers (Riku, Antti and Matti) atCodenomicon and Neel Mehta of Google Security, who first reported it to the OpenSSL team. Codenomicon team found heartbleed bug while improving the SafeGuard feature in Codenomicon's Defensics security testing tools and reported this bug to the NCSC-FI for vulnerability coordination and reporting to OpenSSL team.

You are likely to be affected either directly or indirectly. OpenSSL is the most popular open source cryptographic library and TLS (transport layer security) implementation used to encrypt traffic on the Internet. Your popular social site, your company's site, commerce site, hobby site, site you install software from or even sites run by your government might be using vulnerable OpenSSL. Many of online services use TLS to both to identify themselves to you and to protect your privacy and transactions. You might have networked appliances with logins secured by this buggy implementation of the TLS. Furthermore you might have client side software on your computer that could expose the data from your computer if you connect to compromised services.

Google Has Reputable Sites Afraid To Link Naturally

Google Has Reputable Sites Afraid To Link Naturally | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

"And the freaking out continues...."

Google has reignited the link removal hysteria by going after guest blog posts. People who have written guests posts on other sites over the years are now rushing to have their links removed just in case Google doesn’t like them, and decides to penalize their sites. Who can blame them when Google is in fact penalizing sites for guest posts?

Econsultancy, a respected digital marketing and ecommerce resource site, announced (viaSearch Engine Roundtable) that it is “taking a safety first approach. That means adding nofollow links in the bios of guest bloggers”.

They proceed to list a bunch of “facts” about their editorial process. Essentially, it all boils down to this: They only accept high quality posts, and have strict guidelines. They do everything the way it’s supposed to be done, and assume editorial control over it all – even the signatures. But they do allow links in the signatures, and for that reason, they’re afraid that Google might find some reason to penalize them.

162 Future Jobs: Preparing for Jobs that Don’t Yet Exist

162 Future Jobs: Preparing for Jobs that Don’t Yet Exist | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

A recent article in The Economist quotes Bill Gates as saying at least a dozen job types will be taken over by robots and automation in the next two decades, and these jobs cover both high-paying and low-skilled workers. Some of the positions he mentioned were commercial pilots, legal work, technical writing, telemarketers, accountants, retail workers, and real estate sales agents.

Indeed, as I’ve predicted before, by 2030 over 2 billion jobs will disappear. Again, this is not a doom and gloom prediction, rather a wakeup call for the world.

7 Social Media Trends You Need To Watch

7 Social Media Trends You Need To Watch | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

When Shama Kabani Hyder published her book The Zen of Social Media Marketing in 2010, she got an email from a potential customer. "Is it available on the iPad?" he asked. "You mean that device that came out yesterday?" she replied. "Yes," he said.

Customers keep raising the bar on what they expect from businesses, said Hyder, founder and CEO of the The Marketing Zen Group, to the crowd during a breakout session at Inc.'s 2014 Growth conference in Nashville. And businesses have to work even harder to meet those expectations.

In the talk, titled “Digital Foresight: 7 Pivotal Trends Every Leader Must Know,” Hyder shared her advice for companies navigating the ever-changing world of social media. Here are the trends she says you need to follow:

The benefits of strategic planning in your business are something that can’t really be overstated, simply because they are so diverse and tactically sound. Many small business owners start their company and get it rolling along (if they’re lucky enough to get that far) without ever really investing time and research into a long term, customer centric strategic plan that could dramatically change how much success their business grows over the long run.

This is what we’re going to briefly cover here and by introducing you to an excellent ebook on the subject and also just what strategic planning can do for your company if you immerse yourself in it.

Social Media Frequency: How Often to Post to Facebook, Twitter | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

How often is too often to share with your audience?  We want to connect with followers without driving them away. We aim for the perfect balance of sharing and listening. I end up guessing a lot, trying and testing new variations on how often I should post.

If guessing is required for finding the optimal frequency, then at least we can be making educated guesses. I was happy to find some research on the ideal amount to post each day. Let the testing begin.
