Simply Measured shared a study that featured some great data points to help marketers make the most of their Instagram efforts.  Let’s take a look at the data and the insights of this illuminating study.

The Insights

Instagram is not a set it and forget it type of social network. Marketers need to consistently post photos and videos to Instagram to see any impact. It would be ideal to try to set a loose content calendar to organize your efforts and keep a consistent frequency of posting.Content lasts a few days on Instagram. Keep tabs on how long your content continues to receive engagement to determine what your minimum posting frequency should be.Provide captions but don’t go crazy on the length of text. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. If your post involves another user be sure to mention them in the caption and tag them in the image if necessary. Be sure to spread the love!Hashtags help your content get discovered. Be sure to use them!Make sure you use location tags when appropriate. This is especially important if you are a hotel, restaurant or any other brick and mortar business.Don’t forget that Instagram and Twitter make an incredible 1-2 punch for distributing your content!

What I Learned From Building An App For Low-Income Americans - Masters and PhDs | Transformations in Business & Law | Scoop.it

The brief was simple: build a tech product for low-income American households. It wasn’t simple at all.

Living on a low income translates into other forms of scarcity: of power, information, respect, opportunity, time, health, security, and even of sleep. Our job was to build a piece of technology which could increase our users’ stock of at least one of those resources.

This college entrepreneur prize winner built a better jockstrap - Upstart | Transformations in Business & Law | Scoop.it

Standing before a judging panel to explain how your product can protect some delicate parts of the male anatomy would make many people squirm.

"Let's say you're playing baseball, and you decide to go from second to third base," said Goldberg, cofounder of Diamond MMA. "You're running and sliding into base, and the cups are locking in place, and then they completely shift, your cup is on the right, you have absolutely no protection on the left, so the cup is not really covering your whole package and that's when you're really exposed."

That kind of exposure can contribute to the 16,000 groin injuries that athletes endure every year. But dodging those injuries with better equipment is what inspired Goldberg to help start an entrepreneurial venture that just landed him the national title in the Entrepreneurs' Organization's Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in Chicago on Nov. 20, and an award of $10,000.

The Fall of Facebook

The Fall of Facebook | Transformations in Business & Law | Scoop.it

More than 800 million people use Facebook each day – so how could it fall? Well, there’s a current of unease amongst both readers and publishers. As a reader, I see my stream news increasingly populated with suggested posts instead of those by my friends – and as a publisher, I find it increasingly difficult to let more than a handful of my friends see my posts.

As we work on creating a new tool, a tool capable of helping ecommerce merchants and content marketers validate their social media and content marketing. We’ve identified five community pillars and share them in this Curagami post:

Creation Story – Who Are YOU (should map core values and tell a story referred to over and over).Authoritative Content – Become the expert for your entire business segment.User Generated Content (UGC) – Must be valued by actively curated and rewarded via gamification.Gamification – Defined system of rewards that may include “jobs” so community begins to scale and take over.Movements Not Campaigns – Umbrella ideas that incorporate major calendar events but whose genesis you own.

Tumblr and Pinterest now fastest-growing social platforms

Tumblr and Pinterest now fastest-growing social platforms | Transformations in Business & Law | Scoop.it

Earlier this year, Instagram was leading the pack as the fastest-growing social platform. Now, it's Tumblr and Pinterest, which have edged out the picture-sharing app for greatest increase in active users.

Tumblr's active users grew by 120% in the last six months, according to new stats released by the Global Web Index first spotted by TechCrunch on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Facebook's active users grew by just 2%.

Pinterest comes in behind Tumblr with a 111% growth in active users, who are users that say they've actually used the site with some regularity. Earlier this year when GWI released numbers, Instagram was on top but has dropped to third place. Of the top eight, in fact, Facebook is in last place, behindLinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Google+.

Still, these numbers only refer to growth. While it's growing fast, Tumblr still comes in at eighth place for active users overall. Facebook maintains a considerable lead when it comes to popularity, but the social network seems like it could be reaching its peak concentration for users. Tumblr's audience also skews young, while Facebook's — more than any other social platform — skews old, according to the data.

Although fears that technology will displace jobs are at least as old as the Luddites, there are signs that this time may really be different. The technological breakthroughs of recent years — allowing machines to mimic the human mind — are enabling machines to do knowledge jobs and service jobs, in addition to factory and clerical work.

Sick of WordPress Comment Spam? 5 Ways to Stop It Today | Transformations in Business & Law | Scoop.it

Spam! We all hate it, yet marketers continue to inundate us with spam at every turn. You likely get spam emails, spam popups and, if you own a WordPress site, spam comments posted to your blog. While Akismet and other spam stoppers do a pretty good job of filtering out this annoying comments, they are still…well, annoying.

What exactly is comment spam? This is when a third party posts to your site and includes unwanted links or promotes a product without checking with you first. Spammers tend to use automated software, so they might try to post 100 times to your blog within a matter of minutes.

Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can stop these annoying spammers.

Facebook: Is It Still Worth It for Businesses to Keep Their Pages?

Facebook: Is It Still Worth It for Businesses to Keep Their Pages? | Transformations in Business & Law | Scoop.it

When I think back to first creating my business Facebook page, the biggest pulls were that it gave me an easy communication outlet with my customers, it gave our business a sense of professionalism (because what business doesn’t have a Facebook page?), and, mostly, because it was free. Now, with our posts not reaching a majority of our audience unless we pay for it, it’s hard to say if professionalism will continue to be tied to businesses that have Facebook. Or if the small businesses that start a couple years from will even feel the need to create a Facebook fan page due to the costs that accompany it.

European MPs vote to break up Google to curb its dominance | Transformations in Business & Law | Scoop.it

Parliamentarians in Europe have voted to break up internet monolith Google in a bid to curb its dominance.

The resolution is largely symbolic because the motion cannot be enforced, but the vote could capture the attention of regulators in Europe.

In Europe, 90 per cent of internet searches are through Google.

"I think you become powerful when your brand becomes a verb," said internet entrepreneur Marty Gauvin.

"You don't search for things on the internet anymore, you Google them," Mr Gauvin said.

3 Inbound Marketing Insights You Need to Know

3 Inbound Marketing Insights You Need to Know | Transformations in Business & Law | Scoop.it

There are few better ways to gauge marketing trends than a look at HubSpot's annual State of Inbound report, which takes the pulse of the people on the front lines of marketing. Ahead are three inbound marketing insights you need to know, inspired by the 2014 State of Inbound report.

Building a website without including a blog is borderline marketing malpractice, at this point. Content marketing is huge, and it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. How huge? Marketers who regularly used blogging as a marketing tool were 13 times more likely to generate a positive ROI than those who did not, according to the 2014 State of Inbound report. It's no surprise, as blogging, and content in general, have been key to successful inbound marketing from the beginning.
