Wow Twitter Is Offering 1 Million $$ In Advertising Credits | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

Twitter is offering as much as $1 million in free ad credits in total to 10,000 businesses to support Small Business Saturday this weekend.

Stewart-Marshall's insight:

Twitter announced Tuesday that it will give away $100 in free credits to each of the first 10,000 businesses who apply and are eligible for the program in an effort to help these businesses promote their brands on the social network.
Businesses can use these ad credits to purchase Promoted Trends and Promoted Accounts on Twitter, thereby getting their content featured more prominently on the site. In order to be eligible for the giveaway, the business needs to be based in the U.S., active on Twitter and a new advertiser.

Eleven Reasons To Be Excited About The Future of Technology

Eleven Reasons To Be Excited About The Future of Technology | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

“The strongest force propelling human progress has been the swift advance and wide diffusion of technology.” — The Economist.

In the year 1820, a person could expect to live less than 35 years, 94% of the global population lived in extreme poverty, and less that 20% of the population was literate. Today, human life expectancy is over 70 years, less that 10% of the global population lives in extreme poverty, and over 80% of people are literate. These improvements are due mainly to advances in technology, beginning in the industrial age and continuing today in the information age.

Stewart-Marshall's insight:
There are many exciting new technologies that will continue to transform the world and improve human welfare. Here are eleven of them.

While the idea of having autonomous Flying Taxis is a welcome step, especially as it would help decongest traffic on roads, it might on the other hand lead to congestion in the skies! We would also have to ensure that the Flying Taxis don't pose a threat to planes taking off and landing at airports.

Design Thinking in Schools: Building a Generation of Innovators

Design Thinking in Schools: Building a Generation of Innovators | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it
Observing today’s world can tell us much about tomorrow and what human beings need to meet future challenges. Along with the increasing challenges that we face everyday from economical challenges and climate change to extremism and the increasing language of hate between nations, we should raise a generation that is able to meet these challenges and find innovative solutions for tomorrow’s problems. In a previous article, Can we Apply Design Thinking in Education, we discussed how the current education systems still depend on the some core education pedagogy since decades. Although there is a sustaining innovation in some education systems, these future challenges seek a disruptive innovative that can contribute to building a generation programmed to solve problems rather than dealing with them.

When investigating the different routes to achieve this goal, one route seems to be appealing, as it aims to change how we thinking, which aligns with Albert Einstein’s quote: “You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it.” This route is based on design thinking, a methodology that aims to solve problems with a creative approach while putting the user in the center of the process to achieve a user-centered approach. Design thinking processes are not only applied to design business but extend to become a method that can be applied in daily life situation in order to solve our everyday problems or make our lives easier through innovation and creativity.

Crafting Your Story to Pitch Your Great Idea

Karen Dietz's curator insight, September 9, 11:16 AM

Here's a fab post about how to formulate your story when you are getting to pitch your idea. But don't get stuck on the word 'pitch'. Think any presentation where you want to influence people:

  1. Selling your project across the organization
  2. Project reports when a decision or action is a desired outcome
  3. Sales presentations to alliances or prospects
  4. Anytime you need to raise funds or gain resources

What I really like about this article is that it's not a formula per se, but a way to think about your presentation and get your thoughts organized. That's the hard part, really.

Once you get these 5 points down, it will be easy to put together your presentation. Story on!

Snapchat Essentials for Curious Newbies

Snapchat Essentials for Curious Newbies | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

Snapchat is arguably the most popular social media app around. But if you’re one of those folks who’s downloaded it to your smartphone and you're still not quite sure what to do (and you don’t want to ask one of the teenagers you know), here’s a quick getting-started guide to show you the basics.

What is Snapchat?

One of the things that Snapchat is best known for is the ephemeral nature of the content - you take a photo or video and send it to a friend and they have a limited number of seconds (up to 10 seconds maximum) to view the content before it disappears.

Before you send your snap, you can mark it up with text, stickers, or special lenses that give your selfie a silly look (big cartoon eyes, puking rainbows… it sounds odd but quickly becomes strangely charming)....

Strangely enough, being tech savvy has not translated into effective communication skills. E-Mails are just another form of letters thus like all effective formal letters, E-Mails too need to have an effective subject line. It is not surprising that in today's hectic times, people scarcely move beyond the statement of the subject. The subject line is perhaps the most important part of the E-Mail because it is a window into the letter/ e-mail.

Sure, you need to know how to craft a story. But underneath the crafting, these principles are at work. Combined with a well-crafted story, you will experience greater success.

Written from a marketing perspective, these principles are the same for leadership and influence.

So grab this list, take action on these practices, and story on!

3 Subtle Ways To Make An Impact While You're New To The Job

3 Subtle Ways To Make An Impact While You're New To The Job | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it
You’d probably be lying to yourself if you said you’ve never gone into a new job and resolved to outperform your team’s expectations. You have plenty of good ideas and want everyone to know that you’re a genius of sorts.

Most of the time, that mind-set’s great for your career—it pushes you to be your best day in and day out. But the problem is that some people think that motivating themselves this way gives them permission to push their teammates around.

While your company hired you because you bring something unique to the table, that doesn’t give you license to be condescending about it. So if you want to convince your coworkers that you perform above your pay grade, here are a few mind-sets you should adopt ASAP.

That's according to a new study by Stanford University, the University of Washington and Baidu, the Chinese Internet giant. The study ran tests in English and Mandarin Chinese."
