Quality Beats Quantity for Social Media

Quality Beats Quantity for Social Media | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it
"How important is the follower count on your social media?". Hint: quality beats quantity, but there's more to it than that!

janlgordon's curator insight, February 16, 7:55 PM

I selected this article from Curatti written by Jenn Herman because it provides a close look at the types of social media followers your business needs to have.

It's important to have a community that is invested in your brand.

The Importance of Quality Social Media Followers

While you can grow a large audience quickly this may not necessarily be a benefit to your influence online. I agree that is it better to focus on the quality of the follower and not the big numbers.

Herman explains how to attract authentic followers who are interested in what your business has to offer.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • The number of followers still matters if you want your content to be shared. They key is to have a targeted audience who will spread the word.

  • Instead of focusing on higher numbers produce quality content instead. Along with this provide great social customer service.

  • Set realistic goals on your social platform growth. For example, a ten percent increase each month. This is subject to fluctuations and changes as you monitor your accounts.

Building Online Community

As we work on creating a new tool, a tool capable of helping ecommerce merchants and content marketers validate their social media and content marketing. We’ve identified five community pillars and share them in this Curagami post:

Creation Story – Who Are YOU (should map core values and tell a story referred to over and over).Authoritative Content – Become the expert for your entire business segment.User Generated Content (UGC) – Must be valued by actively curated and rewarded via gamification.Gamification – Defined system of rewards that may include “jobs” so community begins to scale and take over.Movements Not Campaigns – Umbrella ideas that incorporate major calendar events but whose genesis you own.

10 Reasons Your Business Still Doesn't Use Pinterest | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it
Here's our admittedly tongue in cheek list of reasons your small businesses still might not be using Pinterest. Join in the fun.

Recent reports suggest Pinterest is well on its way to being one of the biggest social networks ever.

A study last month indicates that while Facebook still maintains its domination with 67 percent of American Internet users, Twitter, the second runner up with 16 percent of the same audience, may soon be overtaken by Pinterest, which now has about 15 percent.

Social Media Ad Revenues to Double By 2016 [REPORT]

Social Media Ad Revenues to Double By 2016 [REPORT] | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

Good news for those who believe social media advertising revenues will be crushed by mobile: A researcher is estimating that the category will double by 2016 to become a $9.2 billion business, in the U.S. at least.

BIA/Kelsey projects a 19.2% annual growth rate for the next four years for social media ads. The researcher believes that so-called native ads like Facebook’s Sponsored Stories and Twitter’s Promoted Tweets will lead the growth. Such native social advertising will grow from $1.5 billion in 2012 to $3.9 billion in 2016 for a 26% annual growth rate. BIA/Kelsey predicts that Facebook, Twitter and others including StumbleUpon and Tumblr will be able to command higher prices for the formats.

PBS Makes Ad Buy For 'Big Bird' on Twitter

PBS Makes Ad Buy For 'Big Bird' on Twitter | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it
PBS could teach other brands a thing or two about how to turn a meme into a marketing opportunity.

During the first presidential debate last night, Mitt Romney admitted that, “I love Big Bird,” but still wants to withdraw government funding from PBS, the television network that airs Sesame Street among other popular shows. The Internet quickly rose up to defend Big Bird with all sorts of Photoshopped tributes, fake Twitter accounts and even some fundraising campaigns.

Rather than ignore the meme, PBS has decided to make an ad buy for the phrase “Big Bird” on Twitter. Those who search for the “Big Bird” on the social network will see an advertisement for PBS at the top, which says, “PBS is trusted, valued and essential.” The ad then directs users to check out valuepbs.org, a website full of statistics about the network’s reach, public service initiatives and how much it really costs taxpayers ($1.35 a year.)

I selected this article from Curatti written by Ruchika Sharma
because it provides insights on how to improve your content with keyword research.

Create a monthly action plan for your articles with the right keywords.

How to Use Keywords Effectively

Content should be made for your target audience. I agree that you can reach more people by conducting research to discover the most applicable topics.

Sharma explains the basics of content planning through keyword research.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Narrow down your focus to ten keywords that you would like to see ranked high on Google. Take a look at what is already showing up in the #1 spot.

  • Go to Google and research titles, descriptions, and H1 tags. This will give you insights into your competitors' rankings and which organic keywords they are using.

  • After conducting research you should have at least 50 keywords on your list for your brand. The next step is to formulate long tail words that fit your niche and copy.

Here is a very quick article listing the 6 C's needed for storytelling success. I like this post because it's not a laundry list of elements to include a story. Instead it's about the 6 C's of story practice -- like Commitment. Or Clarity.

Sure, you need to know how to craft a story. But underneath the crafting, these principles are at work. Combined with a well-crafted story, you will experience greater success.

Written from a marketing perspective, these principles are the same for leadership and influence.

So grab this list, take action on these practices, and story on!

Here's how it happened: In April, everyone in the agency sent LinkedIn requests to A&W Restaurants President Kevin Bazner and Director of Marketing Sarah Blasi at the exact same time. Let's Face it: Most Social Media Marketing Is a Waste of Time

Let's Face it: Most Social Media Marketing Is a Waste of Time | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

The social media marketing backlash has begun. Blame the unlikely team of The Onion and IBM. The former dropped a pitch-perfect takedown of socmedia “experts” right before Thanksgiving. Then Big Blue released data that showed Facebook had almost zero effect on Black Friday sales, and Twitter actually had zero.

The one-two punch confirmed my deep suspicion that a lot of the buzzword-laden blather around social media marketing the past few years was itself a form of marketing for self-conferred experts looking to make a buck off scared blue-chip companies. That’s not to say there aren’t bright, honest people plying their trade. It’s just that I keep waiting for one of them to have a Jerry Maguire moment.

Does Facebook Drive Sales? New Tool Helps Advertisers Find Out

Does Facebook Drive Sales? New Tool Helps Advertisers Find Out | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

Does Facebook drive sales? That’s a question posed by many an online retailer active on the social network — and one Facebook is looking to answer with a new conversion tracking tool for advertisers.

Here’s how it works: Under Ads Manager, marketers can find a unique snippet of code to add to the pages on their websites — say, the page that thanks visitors for signing up for a newsletter, or for completing an order. Every time someone who clicks over from a Facebook ad lands on one of those pages, it registers as a “conversion” in the Ads Manager console.

Until now, marketers could only track the numbers of clicks and, depending on the ad unit, app downloads their ads were generating, but had little data about how well each ad click-through was converting into sales, newsletter signups, site registrations and other targeted actions.

How Smart Devices and Social Media Impact Your Shopping Habits [INFOGRAPHIC] | Transformations in Business & Tourism | Scoop.it

Online tools such as review sites, social networks and smartphones produce data for merchants that, if analyzed properly “in real time,” can transform the way consumers shop, according to a new infographic by custom development firm Symphony Teleca. This, in turn, would equal big bucks for business owners.

Entitled “The Meaning of Like,” the infographic shows just how much consumers are connected to the web. A staggering 167 million people will shop online this year, spending an average of $1,800 per person, it reveals. Unsurprisingly, shoppers are using their smartphones to look for sales and special deals, as well as read product reviews and ratings.
