Are You a Dysfunctional Leader?

Are You a Dysfunctional Leader? | Transformación y Cambio de Creencias | Scoop.it

Few things are as damaging to an organization as a dysfunctional leader. Left unaddressed, the corrosive impact will show up in low morale, stifled development and poor results. Sadly, most toxic leaders are blithely oblivious of the damage they create. If the slackers would just do their jobs, they think, performance would go up.

Leaders come in all kinds of styles and dispositions ranging from tyrants to wimps. What follows are five signs of a dysfunctional leader and tips any leader can use to become more functional.

Change management is an oxymoron. Change leadership is where it's at. People stuff is the hard stuff and management (projects, processes, policies, procedures, practices, and systems) the soft stuff

Stop Beating Yourself Up for Not Getting Everything Done Every Day

Stop Beating Yourself Up for Not Getting Everything Done Every Day | Transformación y Cambio de Creencias | Scoop.it

One of the biggest challenges that we all face is the steadily increasing number of things that we have to do on a daily basis. There is nothing new about this but many people struggle with a sense of daily frustration simply because they can't get everything done and in all likelihood they never will.

At the end of the day, when you look at your to do list, and start the afternoon "I'm not good enough" session, beating yourself up because you didn't get everything done, try making a new list.

What is the optimal digital transformation technology for a networked organization? It is a suite of capabilities that foster an organizational culture that is constantly learning in order to understand and engage the complex environment in which it lives. Like the Internet, that enabled a digital transformation of society and business, these technologies must be based on a simple structure.

TO GOD BE GLORY FOR ALL THINGS! FOR THE GREAT THING ABOUT GOD HE IS NOT MOVED BY EMOTIONS AND NEITHER ARE HIS BLESSING PROVIDED OR NOT BECAUSE OF THE SAME, BUT WE READ ABOUT THE GREAT PHAROAH IN THE BIBLE AND HOW GOD HAS A WAY OF DEALING WITH THE INTERPERSONAL SITUATIONS AND CIRCUMSTANCES OF THOSE HE LOVE AND IT WAS UP TO THEM WHAT THEY CHOSE TO DO WITH WHAT HE BLESSED THEM WITH EMOTIONAL AS IT WAS AND THE SAME GOES FOR US TODAY. EVEN AFTER PHAROAH LET GOD PEOPLE GO, HE TOOK ADVICE AND LISTENED TO A PERSON THAT WAS LOOKING OUT FOR HIMSELF AND WAS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT PHAROAH AND ALL HE HAD LOST AND BEEN THRU BECAUSE HE REFUSED TO OBEY GOD AND LET GOD'S PEOPLE GO. THE MAN WHISPERING THE WHAT YOU GONNA DO NOW HAD NO EMOTION OR CARE BUT FOR HIMSELF AS WHEN PHAROAH FREED THE ISREALITES IT WAS A GREAT LOSS IN SLAVE LABOR, DOLLARS AND ALL THAT FOR THAT MAN TO AND HE WAS NOT GOING TO HAVE THAT AT ALL! BUT WHAT PRICE DID PHAROAH PAY FOR TAKING ADVICE FROM A VOICE OF A MAN THAT COULD CARE LESS. HE RESENDED HIS WORD AND SENT HIS OFFICERS TO BRING THE ISREALITES BACK INTO  CAPTIVES AGAIN AS SLAVES AFTER HE FREED THEM. IN THE PROCESS OF DOING SO ALL THE OFFICERS  THE GREAT PHAROAH SENT OUT DIED IN BATTLE SO TO SPEAK. THAT IS WHY OBEDIENCE TO GOD IS IMPORTANT! THE ONES THAT LEADERS LEAD AND KNOW THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO AND ITS ONLY ABOUT THE DOLLAR AND THEY COULD CARE LESS NOW THAT TAKES NO EMOTIONS AND EVEN JESUS SHOWED EMOTION TRUE HE NEVER SAID A MUMBLING WORD DURING HIS LEADERSHIP PROCESS OF GIVING HIS LIFE BECAUSE NO MN TOOK IT BUT WE OFTEN FORGET THE JESUS WEPT! HE CRIED FOR NO WRONG HE HAD DONE BUT BECAUSE HE TOOK ALL OF OURS AND PLACED IT UPON HIMSELF VOLUNTARILY BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE TO BUT CHOSE TO DO SO IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD NOW THATS LEADERSHIP WITH EMOTION THAT RESOLVED THE GREATEST PROBLEM THERE EVER WILL BE.  THANK YOU JESUS!

What the Dalai Lama Taught Daniel Goleman About Emotional Intelligence

What the Dalai Lama Taught Daniel Goleman About Emotional Intelligence | Transformación y Cambio de Creencias | Scoop.it

Two decades before Daniel Goleman first wrote about emotional intelligence in the pages of HBR, he met his holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Amherst College, who mentioned to the young science journalist for the New York Times that he was interested in meeting with scientists. Thus began a long, rich friendship as Goleman became involved over the years in arranging a series of what he calls “extended dialogues” between the Buddhist spiritual leader and researchers in fields ranging from ecology to neuroscience. Over the next 30 years, as Goleman has pursued his own work as a psychologist and business thinker, he has come to see the Dalai Lama as a highly uncommon leader. And so he was understandably delighted when, on the occasion of his friend’s 80th birthday, he was asked to write a book describing the Dalai Lama’s compassionate approach to addressing the world’s most intractable problems.

"I am excited about Daniel Goleman's new book,"Force of Good" coming out in June.  I believe that it will have a very positive impact of increasing people awareness concerning compassion, three types of empathy, emotional intelligence and call to action in getting much more involved in family, business, community and global problems.

To be human is to connect to humanity and become a very active participant in creating possible solutions for world and community problems.

The depth of the Dalai Lama's compassion for future generations

and his vision of global collaboration touches the hearts of many people all over the world.

Dalai Lama is an excellent role model for many.  He is a world citizen.  He is driven to research world problems in depth and able to communicate with people on all levels. He shows compassion for all.

He is able to reaches out his heart and hands to connect and help many at all levels. He shows no partiality.   How could we not appreciate, cherish him and follow his lead? Of course, we want to know much more about this man, Dalai Lama.  He arouses much curiosity of mind and heart.

Dr. Deborah Brennan's curator insight, April 7, 2015 2:32 PM

This is a great twist on most leadership articles.  I, too, have been guilty of most of these at various times in my career.  I think that as leaders, we are always reflecting and learning.  So, I would add:

Does not continue to learn and grow - does not attend staff development with teachers, does not read, is not open to others' ideas.

Is unavailable emotionally, intellectually, and physically - in the office with the door closed or off campus.  Meetings are closed to all but a select few.  These meeting are often just a dissemination of the leader's ideas and attendees do not disagree out of fear of reprisal.

These are not just demotivators - they can undermine the entire school culture.
