Prior to engaging in moderate plus intensity of strength or resistive training proper technique and neuromuscular coordination principles must be applied.

If adequate preparation is not made as a valuable component to the progression of the young athlete injury can be sustained, and overall performance is minimized.

It is not always how hard you train, but how SMART you PREPARE to TRAIN.

Bauer Health and Wellness Portal: Game Plan for Youth Athlete Success | Training athletes to play sports for optimal sports performance | Scoop.it

Injury Prevention For Youth Athletics
The Youth Athlete is experiencing rates of injury at greater proportions. These injuries can be life threatening, such as head trauma that occurs in concussion. Injuries can involve ligaments, muscles and bones sustained as a result of sudden or repetitive trauma. The fact is that many of these injuries can be avoided with proper education and design of performance enhancing training programs. The goal of the Game Plan for Success program is the health and well-being of the young athlete in sports, and through adulthood,  -Randy Bauer

Warren Potash's insight:

Training to play sports has not been embraced by youth sports. It is very important to participate in a safe and age-appropriate training program to prepare for your season.

With year round play every youngster needs to take the time to rest their body and their mind and train to play their sport(s).

Randy Bauer's curator insight, December 6, 2013 12:24 AM

The development of sport and age-specific training programs must consider neuromuscular and technical training concepts to ensure gradual progression of a comprehensive performance based program. The young athlete must not be trained 'as if ' they are already at the next level.
