While the author points to HR compensation policy as a barrier to motivation I believe transformational Leadership is necessary for creating the environment in which associates can develop mastery, find community and easily recognize the purpose and meaning in their work. I firmly believe that transparency and context  are an important in helping associates identify and develop their own special connections to the mission and each other.

We have begun to incorporate many of these techniques into our annual clinical competencies. It is quite different from the "annual skills check-off" and mind numbing ppt modules but what a great opportunity to apply knowledge vs. reading policy statements.
