Concerns over the viability of the Australian automotive industry have escalated in the wake of Ford's decision to pull out.

Cars produced in Australia evidently can't compete with foreign imports, causing Ford to end production in the country. Some people think import tariffs should be increased or the Australian Dollar be devalued in order to protect the local car industry. Would these ideas work?
