Vellum acts as a reading list  for your Twitter feed, finding all the links that are being shared by those you follow on Twitter and displaying them each with their full titles and descriptions.

This flips the Twitter model, treating the links as primary and the commentary as secondary (you can still see all the tweets about each link, but they are less prominent).

Vellum puts a spotlight on content, making it easy to find what you should read next.

Bubble Motion lands $5m to bring its ‘Twitter for voice’ service to the US, via Hollywood

Bubble Motion lands $5m to bring its ‘Twitter for voice’ service to the US, via Hollywood | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

Bubble Motion is set to bring its 'Twitter for voice' service to the US, and continue its emerging market focus, after the Singapore-based startup landed $5 million in fresh funding through a strategic investment from Japanese VC firm Jafco Asia. The deal takes the company’s total funding to $50 million from a range of backers that include SingTel Innov8, Sequoia Capital and Comcast Interactive Capital.

Bubbly, its service that lets users send and receive voice ‘bubbles’ using a Twitter-style approach, is now up to 19 million registered users — half of which are active each month — thanks to impressive growth following the release of apps for iOS and Android. Yet the company is yet to push itself outside of Asia. Bubble Motion is still focused on Asia development but North America is the next piece of the puzzle for CEO Tom Clayton, who explained to us that he is looking to tap the celebrity buzz of Hollywood to gain traction in the US and beyond, with help from the new investor....

Twitter Engineering: Studying rapidly evolving user interests

Twitter Engineering: Studying rapidly evolving user interests | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

This week, we are presenting a short paper at the International Conference on Weblogs and Social Media (ICWSM 2012), in which @gilad and I examine this phenomenon. An extended version of the paper, titled "A Study of 'Churn' in Tweets and Real-Time Search Queries", is available here. Some highlights:

Examining all search queries from October 2011, we see that, on average, about 17% of the top 1000 query terms from one hour are no longer in the top 1000 during the next hour. In other words, 17% of the top 1000 query terms "churn over" on an hourly basis.

Repeating this at a granularity of days instead of hours, we still find that about 13% of the top 1000 query terms from one day are no longer in the top 1000 during the next day....

Another Piece In Twitter’s Money Puzzle: Teaming Up With HootSuite To Cross-Sell Ads | TechCrunch

Another Piece In Twitter’s Money Puzzle: Teaming Up With HootSuite To Cross-Sell Ads | TechCrunch | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
When Twitter published its latest thinking on how its API would evolve, and what developers it wanted to leave behind, it noted one of the areas it wanted to emphasize more was enterprise.

Today we get more of a clue why: HootSuite, an enterprise-focused Twitter client that actually got a name-check in that blog post, is teaming up with Twitter to sell advertising on the social network.

A promotion that went live today will see some 30,000 HootSuite Pro premium clients receive $100 in vouchers for ads on Twitter, with the offer redeemable through the HootSuite dashboard. The move is aimed at the many small/medium businesses rather than larger enterprises that use HootSuite, and comes in the wake of several other efforts Twitter has made to target smaller companies for ads.

As spokesperson from Twitter confirms that this is an initial rollout.

“As with all of our advertising efforts, we are being thoughtful and deliberate in how we roll out self-serve to all kinds of small and local businesses,” she said. “We are testing out various ways to roll out this offering, including offers to Twitter users by companies like HootSuite.” TechCrunch understands from a source that this is the first signal that “a deeper partnership between the two may be in the works.”...

Is Twitter anything more than an online echo chamber? supporting 'a leftwing mob mentality'?

Is Twitter anything more than an online echo chamber? supporting 'a leftwing mob mentality'? | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
Laura Marcus: Columnists Suzanne Moore and Peter Hitchens rarely see eye-to-eye on anything, but they do seem to agree that Twitter tends towards a leftwing mob mentality...

Is there something inherently progressive and liberal about online communication sites such as Twitter? Or does it just seem that way?

On her Facebook page recently, Guardian columnist Suzanne Moore said she was tired of Twitter because people mostly just follow those they agree with. They're not interested in debate.

"You chose who to follow. There is a whole world of deep dark Twitter if you follow those who don't think like you. But people don't do that. I would not so much say it's leftwing as knee jerk. So outrage over a Daily Mail article happens every day, which is frankly daft. Sometimes it can be about a piece published ages ago but no one had noticed till Twitter went berserk.

"Generally though it is the province of the liberal left and for me it has become more and more unthinking and less and less interesting," Moore told Guardian Technology.

Moore has a surprising ally. Peter Hitchens, columnist for the Mail on Sunday, has referred to Twitter as an electronic leftwing mob and says that's why he too rarely goes there. "Not just Twitter, but the internet generally is in favour of sex and drugs and rock'n'roll and I'm not. And there is certainly something about the web for which the natural default is of the left. Morally, culturally and socially, it's definitely leftwing. Morally and socially conservative-minded people aren't on there anyway or may even be unaware of it."...

Why Facebook, Twitter Are Accelerating the Convergence of Ad-Tech and Software | DigitalNext: A Blog on Emerging Media and Technology - Advertising Age

Why Facebook, Twitter Are Accelerating the Convergence of Ad-Tech and Software | DigitalNext: A Blog on Emerging Media and Technology - Advertising Age | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

For years, the software and ad-tech worlds have traversed different orbits in parallel universes, similar to the way that "paid" media has successfully avoided intermixing with the "earned" media eco-system. This segregation is nearing an apocalyptic end as technology convergence rapidly accelerates, fueled by massive changes in consumer behavior, refocused product roadmaps of the marketing superpowers Facebook and Twitter and a fundamental shift towards overall CMO control of technology choice and budgets.

With Fortune 1000 CMOs projected to invest billions in marketing technology this decade, the tipping point is near and that's why Salesforce and Oracle snapped up Buddy Media, Vitrue, Radian 6 and Collective Intellect, and why my company, Syncapse, bought Clickable. If you look at the landscape, it's easy to understand why:

Social media is now the world's largest mass media.

One billion consumers are now reachable through social media channels. Marketers need to analyze reach, frequency and impact for this audience and they need to intertwine these metrics with existing business objectives. This need for integration extends well beyond the traditional marketing mix as CMOs struggle to operationalize CRM, marketing collaboration, loyalty, customer care, and acquisition across the new and fragmented social media eco-system...

Twitter has made it clear it plans to crack down on third-party services by tightening the rules on use of the network, but this desire for control -- and the drive to monetize its user base -- could ruin what made Twitter special to begin with.
