It's Wookiee Week! Chewbacca Biopic in the Works | Underwire | Wired.com | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
Prepare your Wookiee impressions now: It looks like there could be a Chewbacca movie coming, and it's not being made by George Lucas.

And it’s not being made by George Lucas.

Just a day after we found out about the plan to bring Peter Mayhew — the actor beloved by Star Wars fans the world over for his portrayal of Chewbacca — to Mardi Gras, news came out Thursday that there is a biopic in the works on the 7-foot, 2-inch Brit...

The Art of Storytelling: What We Can Learn from P&G

The Art of Storytelling: What We Can Learn from P&G | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

Brands have to change the way they communicate with consumers, and stories are a part of this natural evolution. How do they do it so far? Concrete storytelling examples from P&G....

...P&G’s latest Raising an Olympian campaign for London 2012 Olympic Games, features stories of Olympic athletes and their mothers – short documentaries featuring real people in real life. Few people know just what it takes for athletes to come so far – we can only imagine. But what is it like for their parents, for their mothers? No other brand ever considered to bring these stories to life, not like this. You’d expect such stories to come from established documentary channels, from Eurosport, ESPN, CNN, and BBC. But from a global brand? And yet, here they are, Procter&Gamble’s most successful advertising campaign to date, because instead of featuring products, it features people...

Sweet! Bon Iver Teams With Spotify, Indaba for Fan Remixes | Underwire | Wired.com | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

The band that entranced the indie music scene with its debut album in 2008 and followed that up with the award-winning Bon Iver in 2011 announces an ambitious remix contest that goes far beyond the usual "here are some tracks for you to mess around with, have fun” type of thing.

Every single song on that record is available in raw, “stem” form, meaning that you get the vocals, guitar, bass, drums and so on as separate tracks, and can make whatever you want out of them, with a chance to win cash and notoriety on the world’s most popular music subscription service.

The winning tracks from the “Bon Iver, Bon Iver: Stems Project” contest will be available for the world to hear exclusively on Spotify (or so we think — the announcement reads “elusively”; hopefully this isn’t a treasure hunt where you have to find the tracks within Spotify’s 17-million-plus songs)....

Facebook converts Stories from an app to a site, offering up justification for social obsession

Facebook converts Stories from an app to a site, offering up justification for social obsession | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
As social networking has woven its way into the fabric of our existence, it has taken on a reputation for being a time suck that destroys our ability to be self sufficient. The highest profile of those networks, Facebook and Twitter, obviously have a vested interest in improving that opinion.

That’s why it’s not too surprising to see a site called Facebook Stories make an appearance today. It’s a collection of tales centered around shared stories that incorporate the use of Facebook to affect their lives in some positive way.

The thing is, Facebook Stories is actually a Facebook app that was introduced way back in February of 2010 by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The new Facebook Stories site is a higher-profile edition that offers up more stories, infographics and videos in a pleasing format. ...

Ted Hope's 15 Steps to the “Better” Way Vs. the “Easy” Way in Film Production | Future of Film

Ted Hope's 15 Steps to the “Better” Way Vs. the “Easy” Way in Film Production | Future of Film | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
The veteran indie film producer challenges filmmakers not to take the easy way out. While he proposes 15 changes to make on your next project, he‘s looking for (at least) 15 more. What do you have up your sleeve?

Two years ago, I wrote a blog post called “Ten Things We Should All Do On Our Productions.” I would like to do a sequel to that post and would love your suggestions as to what those things now should be. I do think the old list fully applies, but I am confident we can add to it.

One of the ten things that was on that list was doing things the “better” way vs. the “easy” way. We so love completing tasks that we often cave into just getting things done. But if we all worked together to lift the bar higher, no one would tolerate many of the practices that are currently considered “acceptable.” So why not work together to raise the bar higher? How about I start with a list:

15 THINGS WE CAN ALL DO ON OUR FILM PRODUCTIONS THAT WOULD MAKE LIFE & ART BETTER, SAFER, & MORE SATISFYING

On that original post, I listed the seven following ideas as examples of the “better” way....

Exclusive: Trion on Defiance and Marketing a Transmedia Property | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
Alex Rodberg talks about the connections between the Defiance game and TV show.

Describing Trion’s Defiance IP demands product speak: it’s open world; it’s massively multiplayer; it’s multi-platform; it’s transmedia. All of it is true. The company is teamed up with SyFy on an ambitious effort to simultaneously launch an interconnected PC and console MMO game that ties into a television show.

We talk with Alex Rodberg, VP of marketing at Trion Worlds, about how the Defiance game and show are being interconnected and what’s planned for marketing ahead of their April 2013 launch. One challenge on the marketing front is what Rodberg calls “sharing a brand” between Trion and SyFy.

The Netocracy is coming (you better be ready)

The Netocracy is coming (you better be ready) | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

We are in the middle of a social revolution spawned by the possibilities of the Internet and its democratization that gives 2 billion humans the possibility to obtain information, interact and develop ideas. This process has given birth to a collaborative web (2.0) as people realized they could get connected to each other as much as to websites....

..The unlimited and virtually free access to information as well as the possibility to communicate, to develop new ideas and to organize social change has empowered the citizen to the point that governments and corporations have grown nervous, rightfully feeling that their importance and power are being undermined.

Through laws like ACTA, SOPA or PIPA, they have tried to limit this empowerment. Thus many Internet users have become politicized, feeling the intrusion of political and economic interests in the form of surveillance, censorship and the crackdown on sharing. Online activism (hacktivism), once the domain of politicized hackers and tech-savvy human rights activists, has become democratized as people have come in contact with the easy to use tools and ideology of the Free Internet.

This exponential development together with the Internet’s inherent possibility of a hive-like existence spawned Anonymous, as we know it today. Loosely knitted hacktivist networks like Telecomix, massively popular Facebook pages like We Are All Khaled Said, and masses of angry and politicized Internet users behind their Guy Fawkes masks might be the face of the web 3.0 and also the advent of the netocracy...

Inkling squeezes interactive ebooks onto your iPhone

Inkling squeezes interactive ebooks onto your iPhone | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
After schooling the publishing industry on how interactive ebooks could be tackled on the iPad, Inkling is now focusing on the iPhone’s much smaller screen with its latest release.

Inkling 3 brings the company’s extensive library of digital textbooks, cookbooks, and Frommer’s travel guides to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The news comes a few months after Inkling opened up its platform to the Web, allowing anyone with a web browser to access its titles.

While the iPhone’s 3.5-inch screen isn’t exactly conducive to long reading sessions, the new app means that Inkling is primed for the release of the iPhone 5 (or whatever it’ll be called), which is expected to have a 4-inch display. The company says that more than 4,000 schools are using its platform for digital textbooks, so the addition of iPhone support will also give students less of an excuse for not doing their class reading....

Doctor Who trailer gives a glimpse of new adventures in the Tardis

Doctor Who trailer gives a glimpse of new adventures in the Tardis | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
Dan Martin: Daleks, deadly Angels, dinosaurs and a departure – the new series of Doctor Who is looking better than ever.

Something has happened to time. It has stretched. Since the terrible events of The Wedding Of River Song, we have been denied any Doctor Who action of any consequence for almost a year. Which is not how things are supposed to be.

But on Thursday morning, and quite by surprise, we were given our first glimpse of the new series of Doctor Who. And suddenly, life in the UK post-Olympics is starting to look slightly less boring.

The five episodes that will air before Christmas will climax in the departure of the Ponds, which means that what would normally be a preamble for the main event is serving as the big finale to an epic three-year story. Isn't Steven Moffat clever? The way this season is billed is as a big movie poster every week – perhaps the right move after the partial success of last year's arc-heavy, front-loaded River-themed season. There are no two-parters, and every week promises its own spectacular...

We are of course proud and happy, as are the Tugg representatives:

“Tugg was founded with the goal of letting people take control of their theater-going experience and bring the films they're passionate about to their local theater. Iron Sky is the perfect example of a movie that has galvanized a community and empowered its fans to control the fate of the film. Now, through the Tugg campaign, fans are doing exactly that, having already organized screenings in dozens of cities across the United States, and with many more still to come!” -Daniel Parnes / Tugg...
