Polaroid Socialmatic Camera could be reality by next year

Polaroid Socialmatic Camera could be reality by next year | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
Instagram concept camera gets closer to materializing in the marketplace.

We've been waiting for a tangible version of the Instagram Socialmatic concept camera since ARD Studio introduced the idea in May of last year.

Intended as the Instagram app icon come to life, the imagined stand-alone digital camera would both share images on the popular photo-sharing social network and print them á la Polaroid. Initial conceptualized specs included 16GB of SD storage, a 4:3 touchscreen display, LED flash, optical zoom, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and a built-in printer. Printed images would bare users' Instagram handles and a QR code that other Socialmatic shooters can scan in order to follow the Instagram feed...."

"...Several technology brands have created branded transmedia storytelling programs to launch new products, highlight product features, and showcase the potential of technology to change our world. Intel & Toshiba created The Beauty Inside (video), an interactive film where anyone could play the role of the lead character. Nokia created an interactive story called Someone Else’s Phone to show how a lost phone might reveal all our secrets to a stranger. Nokia also partnered with Tim Kring to create the Conspiracy for Good (video) to support social organizations and showcase its Ovi platform. Microsoft created The Vanishing Point ARG (video) to launch Vista. Google created the Niantic Project ARG to showcase its augmented reality app Ingress (video). Orange has created a series of ARGs — Alt Minds (video), Detective Avenue (video) and Fanfan 2 (video) — to showcase the transmedia storytelling technologies created by the Orange Transmedia Lab. How do you tell the story of a PLACE? New technologies like geo-tagging, location-aware devices, interactive video and augmented reality are being combined with traditional storytelling methods like documentary film and oral history to explore the world in richer, more in-depth ways than ever before. Using these tools and techniques, creators can now fully consider a location itself as one of the “main characters” in their narratives. Panelists include storytellers, practitioners and technologists who are creating the next generation of place-based storytelling.

The Transmedia Secret of Secret Cinema

The Transmedia Secret of Secret Cinema | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

This past November, I made the trip for the second year in a row to the Mozilla Festival in London, a three day technology binge fest that brings together some of the world's top thinkers to consider and shape the future of the web....

...In my opinion that was the greatest part of the idea behind Secret Cinema. At its core, it is surprisingly simple -- completely immerse your audience into the world of the movie, beginning days before they even step near the theater, as a means to get them to connect with the story in a deeper way.

I am constantly brainstorming and developing engaging experience online through my company, Uncharted Digital, but it is rare to come across a project that so eloquently combines use of the internet, film, and physical immersion...."

Remember when we told you yesterday about Innocente, the Oscar winning documentary short that got its finishing funds from Kickstarter? Well it wasn’t the only crowdfunded live action short to win. From IndieGoGo’s blog:

"Two years after their Indiegogo campaign in the Wild West days of crowdfunding, Shawn Christensen and his team walked away with an Oscar on Sunday night for their live-action short film, “Curfew.” They ran a flexible funding campaign in early 2011 to help cover post-production costs for the short, which they had just finished filming — with 10 hours of raw footage."

The trailer for Curfew (available in the iTunes Store) is rock solid...

Brand storytelling is hardly a new idea. One of the earliest examples is the Wishbook from Sears and Roebuck. In 1895, the Sears Wishbook hit rural Americans mailboxes offering a new concept – a variety store that allowed frontier families to order everything from guns and garments to a Stradivarius violin – for $6.10!

Canon’s Project Imagin8ion with Ron Howard

...Last year, Canon charged legendary film director Ron Howard to create a short film based on photos submitted by Canon users. The goal was to build a story from eight photos chosen for setting, time, character, mood, relationship, goal, obstacle, and the unknown. The result is a moody and moving short film that explores dealing with the death of a parent from childhood to adulthood....

Digital Publishing for Filmmakers: The Karada and The Silent History | Filmmaker Magazine

Digital Publishing for Filmmakers: The Karada and The Silent History | Filmmaker Magazine | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

Transmedia by definition requires producers to work in more than one medium; the fun, most of the time, is in devising ways to carry a narrative (or narrative world) across different platforms, making them engage with each other while best utilizing each platform’s unique capabilities. Sometimes, however, it’s sufficient to work exclusively in a single non-film medium — and it can get the creative juices flowing if you’re stuck in a rut. After all, Bergman had his fiction (besides his theater work), Woody Allen has his clarinet, and Pasolini had pretty much everything....

The Karada comes from an international team of writers and transmedia artists: the core team includes Carrie Cutforth-Young of Queen Spade Creative in Toronto, Tom Liljeholm of Tea4Two Entertainment in Sweden, and Jim Martin, an independent writer for Heroes and other projects, in Los Angeles. The literary property launched last September and is designed as a prequel to and proof of concept for a television series entitled All Your Fates, plus a graphic novel and other media. Part romance, part thriller, and many parts science-fiction, The Karada‘s story follows one David Blunt as he’s rebuffed by the girl of his dreams but then comes across a way to access various parts of the multiverse. Determined to win her heart in at least one universe, he starts traveling to different dimensions to woo her — but traveling through the multiverse, and meeting different versions of the same people (including yourself), brings its share of dangers as well...."

Fantastic Detailed Post on Future of Engagement #6: Social Curation

Fantastic Detailed Post on Future of Engagement #6: Social Curation | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

"Media, organizations and brands curate content to drive social engagement. What is Social Curation?

Social curation involves aggregating, organizing and sharing content created by others to add context, narrative and meaning to it. Artists, changemakers and organizations use social curation to showcase the full range of conversations around a topic, add more nuance to their own original content, and set the stage to crowdsource content from their community members.

The rise of social curation can be attributed to three broad trends. First, people are creating a constant stream of social media content, including updates, location check-ins, blog posts, photos and videos. Second, people are using their social networks to filter relevant content, by following others who share similar interests. Third, social media platforms are also curating content, by giving curation tools to users (YouTube playlists, Flickr galleries, Amazon lists, Foodspotting guides), using editors and volunteers (YouTube Politics, Tumblr Tags) or using algorithms (YouTube Trends, Auto-generated YouTube channels, LinkedIn Today).

As a result, a number of niche social curation platforms have emerged to enable people to curate different types of content — including links, photos, sounds and videos — into boards (Pinterest), trees (Pearltrees (video)), pages (Scoop.it (video)) and narratives (Storify (video), Cowbird). Some social curation platforms are focused on specific niches; for instance, Learni.st(video) helps people curate lessons and Fancy helps people discover cool things to buy...."

The TMLA Guide to… The Lizzie Bennet Diaries | Transmedia LA | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

"The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, known to fans as TheLBD, reframes Jane Austen’s classic novel as an interconnected series of vlogs and social media accounts. The central YouTube account is LizzieBennet, and it was here less than a year ago that Elizabeth “Lizzie” Bennet (Ashley Clements) began her video diary with the immortal first line:

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.”

Here printed on a t-shirt. Setting the tone for the series to come. That first episode introduces Lizzie, her best friend Charlotte Lu (Julia Cho), and her sister Lydia (Mary Kate Wiles).

The central YouTube account, which adheres to the Vlog format, tells the story of the novel from Lizzie’s point of view. As the story unfolds more members of the cast join the series, some of whom are given spin-offs (TheLydiaBennetbeing your humble writer’s personal favorite) and lives of their own on social media. William Darcy (Daniel Gordh), the romantic lead in Austin’s novel, makes his first appearance in the series’ world via Twitter. The character’s presence was maintained there for months before showing up on screen....
