Connecting - Trends in UI, Interaction, & Experience Design. thanks Faisal!

'The 18 minute "Connecting" documentary is an exploration of the future of Interaction Design and User Experience from some of the industry's thought leaders.  As the role of software is catapulting forward, Interaction Design is seen to be not only increasing in importance dramatically, but also expected to play a leading role in shaping the coming "Internet of things." Ultimately, when the digital and physical worlds become one, humans along with technology are potentially on the path to becoming a "super organism" capable of influencing and enabling a broad spectrum of new behaviors in the world.'

Twitter Breaks News of the Boston Marathon Explosions

Twitter Breaks News of the Boston Marathon Explosions | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

'Two blasts near the finish line of the Boston Marathon caused at least 23 injuries—six critical—and two confirmed deaths this afternoon—Twitter broke the story and Twitter continues to aggregate it with photos and briefs from the scene, while other news organizations prepare deeper reporting. Vine captured the scene here, too....

...The Wall Street Journal and New York Times removed their paywalls for coverage of the events, as they've done before for other major news. (Note: When embedded within the Adweek content management system, the following tweets' time-stamps were inexplicably pushed ahead by roughly four hours. Clicking through the tweets reveals the actual publish times.)...'

siobhan-o-flynn's insight:

Twitter was definitely THE platform for news - not all accurate - though sometimes the updates & clarifications were out on twitter well ahead of CNN & other news broadcasters.

Case in point was 'explosion' at JFK library. Wolf Blitzer was still reporting it as a 3rd device/explosion 1/2 hour after a tweet stating library officials had stated it was an unrelated fire

TYPE:RIDER Video game, documentary, installation... New #ARTE #transmedia project. Trendscape Blog on Canada Media Fund [video] | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

ARTE France and its associated producers continue to explore web documentary, participatory fiction, online magazine and many other transmedia creative formats. Among these, Type:Rider is an outstanding example – both in its subject matter and its auteurist vision of video game design.

Three gaming experiences are presented to explore the world of typography. First, there is a video game (accessible via web browser, smartphone or tablet) which spans the history of typography, with each level to a different typographical style, from “Gothic” to “Pixel.”

The game is quite easy to play and operate. The player must guide the colon through a given level from start to finish by collecting the asterisks that block the documents posted concerning typography and its history. These documents include accounts of inventors like Gutenberg and famous type designers like Claude Garamond or Étiennne Didot....

Guardian launches platform for user-generated content

Guardian launches platform for user-generated content | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
Readers will be able to submit videos, pictures and text directly via free GuardianWitness iPhone and Android apps or online. By Josh Halliday

'The Guardian has launched a new digital platform allowing readers to contribute to live news and other content, GuardianWitness.

Readers will be able to submit photographs, video and text directly to Guardian journalists through articles on the website or free apps on the Apple iPhone and Google Android smartphones.

GuardianWitness was built in partnership with the mobile network EE and builds on the Guardian News & Media title's "open journalism" publishing drive.

Joanna Geary, the Guardian's social and communities editor, said: "At the Guardian we have a long history of getting our readers involved in our journalism. In the last few years alone our readers have helped us to review MPs' expenses documents, follow the UK riots, gain real-time insights into the Arab spring as events in the Middle East unfolded and challenge the government's employment schemes.

"GuardianWitness will further reinforce our recognition that journalism is now a two-way conversation and will open up our site as we never have before. Not only will this make it even easier for our readers to get involved in our journalism and form both local and global communities of joint interest, it will also provide our journalists with a fantastic new tool, providing them with insights and views that we perhaps don't yet have access to."

"Syfy is betting even more on social TV, adding some element of interactivity to nearly every new show it presented to advertisers and media buyers at its upfront on Wednesday.

"Defiance," the TV series starting April 15 and its complimentary video game, was the star of the show. But Syfy is already using "Defiance" as a model for its upcoming slate of programming.

Syfy President David Howe said the network is focused on immersive entertainment that allows viewers to participate and become saturated in the content. To that end, it plans quarterly multi-media events starting next year, including "Helix," "Opposite Worlds," "Unbreakable," "Dominion" and the miniseries "Ringworld."..."

Twitter’s Music App Launch Reportedly Set For Friday, But Coachella Could Prove Too Chaotic For Marketing | TechCrunch

Twitter’s Music App Launch Reportedly Set For Friday, But Coachella Could Prove Too Chaotic For Marketing | TechCrunch | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

"Twitter Music will reportedly launch on Friday, reports AllThingsD citing sources familiar with the matter. Earlier today, music discovery service We Are Hunted confirmed that it had been acquired by Twitter, while Ryan Seacrest tweeted that he’d been playing around with Twitter’s new music app.

AllThingsD says that Twitter’s standalone music app will suggest tracks based on data gleaned from users’ accounts, including the accounts that they follow. The app will allow users to listen to music using third-party services like iTunes and Soundcloud, or watch music videos provided by Vevo.

Its acquisition of We Are Hunted and upcoming music app are the latest signs, along with Vine and its own photo filters, that Twitter is building itself out as an all-inclusive media platform. We’ve contacted Twitter for more information..."
