Reinvention Stories: Bringing Interactive Documentary to Life | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

How does a city of inventors reinvent itself in a changing economy, after waves of challenges? How are individuals reinventing themselves, in the wake of job loss and business upheavals?

REINVENTION STORIES is community project made by a community in Dayton,Ohio, or rather  an amazing experiment in bringing real life documentary stories into the potential of an interactive environment.

This project is part of LOCALORE, a public media initiative in the U.S. created by AIR, the Association of Independents in Radio, with major support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Additional support for this project from the MacArthur Foundation, the Wyncote Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ohio Arts Council, Wright State University, the Yellow Springs Community Foundation and the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program...."

Enola is a Horror Game About Living With the Pain of a Loved One | Indie Game Magazine | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

'I needed a minute after I played the Enola demo at PAX East. Some horror games can have that effect on me, but this one was different. While searching for the female main character’s girlfriend, I had witnessed a lot of imagery that disturbed me. Broken mannequins lay all over the place, carefully displayed in ways that made little secret of what had happened to the missing woman I was looking for. Enola isn’t speaking to our fear of supernatural creatures, but of the very real vulnerabilities a woman would feel while walking home alone at night. This is a game about living in the aftermath of the sexual assault of a loved one....'

A Brief Visual History of On-Screen Text Messages in Movies and TV | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

'In college, one of my professors made an casual observation that struck an eerie chord, and has stayed close to mind since. "In a way, we've all become cyborgs," she said, matter-of-factly. "How often is your phone not within a couple inches of your hand?” Of course, our technological dependence isn’t news anymore. And with the onslaught of wearable tech and Google Glass finally being made available to purchase (for a cool $1,500), we’re becoming more cyborg-ish than ever...'

Video games are often used as a learning tool, but most educational games focus on word memorization or the magic of math. However, many game theorists and economists are beginning to realize that video games have something more significant to teach us about the function of our societies, governments, and economies. In 2001, economist Edward Castranova wrote a groundbreaking paper about the economy of EverQuest. In his paper, Castranova revealed that EverQuest’s currency was more valuable than the Japanese Yen, and that the game’s gross national product was actually bigger than that of China or India. Castranova is now a telecommunications professor at Indiana University Bloomington and is currently working on a book about evolutionary game theory and how virtual economies are drastically influencing our own....'

Något nytt i denna artikel om det "nya" digitala samhället? #digiskol

Vanessa Camilleri's curator insight, August 21, 11:22 AM

People always seem to be complaining about this... our children are distracted... who wants to read when they can play games, but in effect children tend to copy their parents. By instilling a passion for reading from a young age we can try to balance out the claim that the young children do not like books or reading. One story a day... just like the apple, helps develop the creativity in children. It doesn't hurt by having the children making up their own stories and writing them together with their parents!

PBS And Pemberley Digital’s ‘Frankenstein, MD’ Comes Alive

PBS And Pemberley Digital’s ‘Frankenstein, MD’ Comes Alive | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

'PBS Digital Studios, in partnership with Pemberley Digital, just released its first-ever series based on a story that’s nearly 200 years old. Frankenstein, MD, a modern, online video adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel came alive on August 19, 2014.

Created by the same team who gave us The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved (which includes Hank Green of Vlogbrothers fame and Bernie Su), the transmedia web series introduces viewers to Victoria Frankenstein, a highly-driven woman dedicated to proving herself in the male-dominated fields of math and science. And much like in Frankenstein MD’s spiritual predecessors, fans will be able to follow Victoria’s experiments in the lab not just through video, but on her blog, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram....'

'Frankenstein, MD,' Bringing Gothic Horror to the Internet

'Frankenstein, MD,' Bringing Gothic Horror to the Internet | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

'Frankenstein, MD is perhaps the most torn I have ever been over a review. On one hand, it features corny sitcom writing, over-the-top acting and the same physical comedy often seen in children’s programs. On the other, it’s a show deeply rooted in the famous Mary Shelley novel with details and modernized nuances that the literature nerd in me has way too much fun noticing. Hmm, to hate or not to hate? That is the question.

The show —the latest transmedia series from Pemberley Digital and PBS Digital Studios— is kind of like the love child of Bill Nye the Science Guy and The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Like the Lizzie Bennett Dairies, which is an Emmy award-winning web series based on Jane Austen’s Pride and PrejudiceFrankenstein MD is based on Ms. Shelley’s Frankenstein. The show includes the novel’s famous characters and motif’s with a few major differences....'

Super Cool Tech. Hands-On With Bublcam’s Spherical Video Camera | TechCrunch | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

The Bublcam is a video camera that can capture a sphere of content with its four high-def sensors. We first covered it when its creators put up a Kickstarter campaign looking to raise $100,000 to bring the gadget to market. After raising more than three times that, the team behind it has spent nine months tweaking the camera to prepare it for launch this fall.

We had Bublcam CEO Sean Ramsay stop by the office to show off the current version of the device, which is available for preorder for $579. In our demo, we used the Bublcam to stream a live video, take a selfie, and record footage from around the office. Operating the camera with one button is easy once you know how long you need to press it for each function, and the color-changing LEDs let you know what the camera is doing at all times....
