Jeff Gomez, CEO & President at Starlight Runner - Industry Interview

Jeff Gomez, CEO & President at Starlight Runner - Industry Interview | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it

Ouroboros Entertainment Industry Interview with CEO Jeff Gomez of Starlight Runner...

3. How do you see brands approach to transmedia changing in the next couple of years?

Companies large and small are now realizing that they are no longer in control of their story. There is more discussion about any brand between consumers in social media than there is “official story” from the brand owner by an exponential factor. Look how tarnished the AT&T brand has been in the wake of the rise of the iPhone. The company perceived this as a glitch—after all, only a tiny percentage of their customers owned iPhones. But the discussion about dropped calls and shoddy service by those users infiltrated social media like ripples through a pond, ripples that washed up on the shore of big media. Suddenly AT&T is tarred and feathered. They were unprepared for that, because a century of traditional media made them believe they had control over the narrative. They didn’t. No one does any more. You can say the same thing happened to Mitt Romney, the NRA and the GOP.

So it used to be that the corporate narrative, the totality of a company’s Story World, was a pie that was mostly controlled by the corporation. Now it’s mostly controlled by people and their perception of that narrative. The corporation today only controls a sliver of that pie. It’s an amazing reversal....

Well, at least it's not Daily Motion.

Joss Whedon just surprised fans at the Tribeca Film Festival by pulling a Beyoncé and releasing his new movie online, with no prior warning.

Paranormal love story In Your Eyes premiered at Tribeca and as a $5 Vimeo rental at the same time, meaning that many of the film’s first reviews came from Internet commenters rather than professional movie critics. Available with subtitles in Japanese, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese, the aim seems to be to make the movie as easy to watch as possible. As in, you don’t even have to get out of bed..."

"Today, we are releasing the first batch of videos from our April 4 conference, Transforming Hollywood: The Future of Television, jointly hosted by Denise Mann (UCLA) and myself (USC) and held in UCLA’s James Bridges Theater. Special thanks to David McKenna for his epic work in editing, mixing, and uploading these videos so quickly.

PANEL 1 Virtual Entrepreneurs: Creators Who are Reinventing TV for the Digital Future

In Fall 2011, Google announced plans to invest $100 million dollars to forge original content partnerships with a number of talented YouTube creators in order to enhance the production value of their work and their value to brands. This panel gives voice to two new types of virtual entrepreneur: Individual web creators who are reinventing entertainment for the digital age, and the CEO of a new type of web-based multi-channel network (MCN), which is forging deals with individual web-creators in exchange for providing them with infrastructural support in the form of sound stages, green screens, higher quality cameras and editing equipment, enhanced social media marketing tools and brand alliances...."

Visit Postwar Vancouver in Tribeca Film Festival's transmedia storyworld Circa 1948. Stan Douglas & Loc Dao (NFB)

Visit Postwar Vancouver in Tribeca Film Festival's transmedia storyworld Circa 1948. Stan Douglas & Loc Dao (NFB) | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
Step back into time through a new transmedia storyworld called Circa 1948, debuted yesterday at the Tribeca Film Festival Storyscapes, open to the public today and available on iTunes App Store for free.
siobhan-o-flynn's insight:

Very very very cool

Quick Facts

•    By pushing the limits of 3D rendering on the tablet, using binaural sound with touch and gyroscope-driven navigation modes, and running it all on an independent, Canadian-made, open-source rendering engine to control what is essentially an art experience, Circa 1948 distinguishes itself as a truly groundbreaking work.
•    The online site creates an entry point to the project and serves as a primer to a unique storytelling experience of gentrification and power in post war Vancouver.
•    The interactive installation at the Tribeca Film Festival allows Storyscapes audiences to literally step into the past and experience this immersive virtual reality on a larger scale. The live launch event will feature Stan Douglas and members of the NFB team unveiling the work.
•     Circa 1948 was co-created by Douglas and Loc Dao, Executive Producer/Creative Technologist for the NFB. Other key NFB team members include producers Selwyn Jacob and Dana Dansereau and project director Kelly Richard Fennig.
