Love this Guy. Orphans vs. Empires: Andrew Slack [founder Harry Potter Alliance] at TEDxYouth@SanDiego

Andrew Slack shares how the universal story of the orphan versus the evil empire (think Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, Superman, Luke Skywalker and, of course, Harry Potter) has the power to be a game changer in the story of humanity and how we see ourselves as human beings. Slack's "novel" approach to activism inspires us all to join forces, to use our powers for good and to know that every wall has a secret door just waiting to be found. Fantasy is not an escape from our world -- but an invitation to go deeper into our world. Slack passionately reveals that banding together, reaching out and reveling in our interconnectedness makes us not orphans, but siblings -- who sleep together as a family of heroes under one sky -- where we are home.

Andrew Slack is the co-founder and executive director of the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA). HPA fights the dark arts in the real world by using parallels from Harry Potter to do good - such as sending cargo planes to Haiti, building libraries across the world, and advocating for human rights, media reform and equality on LGBTQ, immigration and class.,...

Tribeca Film Institute is Indiewire's New Project of the Month Partner! | Tracking Transmedia | Scoop.it
Great news: The Tribeca Film Institute has come aboard as sponsor of Indiewire's wildly popular Project of the Month. Winners will now win creative consultations with the kind folks at the Tribeca Film Institute.

Indiewire's Project of the Day column puts a spotlight on one in-the-works project each day, Monday through Thursday. Projects of the Day are exciting new projects, looking for support in building an audience and getting made. At the end of the week, all four Projects of the Day vie for Project of the Week, the winner of which gets a digital distribution consultation from Indiewire's parent company, SnagFilms. At the end of each month, each Project of the Week is eligible for Project of the Month.

"Filmmaker Tiffany Shlain talks cloudsourcing creativity and giving back in the age of collaboration.
When YouTube first came out, I had a vivid dream that all the videos were in HD quality and had easy pull-down menus that explained how I could license the footage. I was like a kid in a candy store.

As a filmmaker who hardly shoots anything and is primarily into remixing and recontextualizing images, this explosion of online video was not only a much bigger candy store than I had ever dreamed of, it also completely changed the way I make films. The new tools and technologies that enable video sharing have allowed me and my team at The Moxie Institute to embark on a whole new adventure that we call CLOUD FILMMAKING..."
