The Sundance Institute announced Thursday that 11 independent films supported by its Artist Services Program are now available on Hulu, Netflix and SnagFilms (Indiewire's parent company).  The Artist Services Program gives Sundance alumni exclusive opportunities to self-distribute, market and find finance solutions to their work. "Brother to Brother," "Children Underground," "Enemies of the People" and "Dirty Work" are now available for immediate streaming, and Artist Services films can also be found on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Microsoft Xbox, Sony Entertainment Network, SundanceNOW, VUDU and YouTube....

Randy Finch's Film: Further Evidence That Feature Length Films Are In Decline?

According to data released on July 12th, 2012, subscribers increasingly say they pay for a Netflix subscription to access TV shows - and not for streaming feature length films.

 

The percentage of subscribers who say they use Netflix to stream movies has been dropping - from 53 percent in 2011 to 47 percent in 2012.

 

Instead of feature length movies, Netflix subscribers increasingly say they subscribe to watch - at the time they choose and without commercials - TV shows.

 

This self-reporting by subscribers is borne out by actual viewing numbers: According to Netflix 60% of total Netflix viewing hours are spent on television shows, compared with only 40% for movies....

Next Issue Media's unlimited, Netflix-style service for magazine tablet editions has arrived on the iPad.

 

Major publishers' Netflix-like service for magazines has arrived on the iPad, putting the industry in a position to finally find out whether an all-you-can-read digital offering will help win new readers and encourage overall consumption.

 

The service, which comes via an app from Next Issue Media, has been on certain Android devices since April, but iPad availability will dramatically expand its reach. The app, which also sells individual subscriptions and individual issues, has fewer than 15,000 regular users so far....
