Here's another fab resource for everyone interested in business storytelling. Story professional Lianne Picot @verygoodstories has been interviewing some of the best minds in the storytelling field about how and why story works, applications for stories, and concrete how-to steps.

This link is to her radio show where you can find the links to each interview. Like "What's Your Money Story?" with business author Mike Michalowicz. Wow -- now that's a critical but overlooked story any business person needs to dig into if they want more success.

Or, "Creating An Emotional Connection". Easy to say, tougher to do. Again, this interview with Jonathan Bennett will help you develop compelling narratives supporting your strategic direction and engaging stakeholders.

All of the interviews are downloadable as MP3 files for your traveling pleasure. Thanks for helping us all Lianne!

UK - Perception of Value infographic

UK - Perception of Value infographic | Tourism Storytelling, Social Media and Mobile | Scoop.it

Value is in the eye of the beholder. But what influences the beholder in their perceptions? This infographic looks at the psychology behind our perceptions, noting trends, marketing practices and differing generational attitudes. Including:

How lobster went from prison food (at one time fetching $0.11/lb) to fine diningHow ‘ancient grains’ got priceyHow we experience more pleasure from a wine we’re told costs more

Since price positively influences perceptions of quality, and inversely influences perceptions of value, how do sellers of mundane products use history, story, exclusivity, and implied scarcity to change our appetites? Read on to find out a little more about the Perception of Value...

7 Strategies That Are Transforming Mobile Apps | Marketing Technology Blog

7 Strategies That Are Transforming Mobile Apps | Marketing Technology Blog | Tourism Storytelling, Social Media and Mobile | Scoop.it

Just as every company is now a publisher (or should be) if they wish to have an effective digital strategy, I believe the next phase of growth will be that marketing departments of every company need to be involved in the development of mobile and/or tablet applications. If that doesn’t sound like a reality – I’ll provide an example.

We recently designed and developed a mobile application for engineers to use to make a plethora of different conversions for calculations they need to make daily. The company we built it for is a surface technology company. Does the application sell? No! That’s not the point – the point is to have the company’s name top of mind as engineers are working day to day. Greater brand awareness and click to contact calls to action enable them to take the next step. Immediately upon release, over 300 users in their industry downloaded the application and are utilizing it daily. It is a huge acquisition and retention win with a minimal investment.

Business storytelling colleague Annette Simmons @Annette Simmonsrecently launched a "How-To" series where she analyzes a specific story, sharing with us what makes it great.

What a fabulous idea! And lots to learn about effective storytelling here.

There are 2  basic ways to learn storytelling:

  1. practicing your stories with a coach or in a storytelling workshop
  2. or, watching others tell a story really well and then having a trained professional comment on what's working is one of the best ways to learn storytelling.

Thank you Annette for helping us improve our storytelling skills through method #2.

I hope everyone enjoys the stories and analysis and learns lots. Story on!

This is brilliant! And makes perfect sense. We think in stories. We talk in stories. We organize our lives as narratives. But I hadn't thought about how to apply what we know about narrative to managing business leads. But "Duh!" It's a no-brainer.

So Marketo.com came up with this fab infographic that brings lead nurturing into a narrative arc, and applies story elements to their lead tracking model to make it stick.

Thanks Marketo! I hope all you readers get a kick out of this, and apply this model to gain more business.
