What online hotel ratings and reviews aren't telling consumers

What online hotel ratings and reviews aren't telling consumers | Tourisme Tendances | Scoop.it

Hotel ratings do not tell the full story of how guests view a hotel, according to an analysis of the text of 5,830 reviews covering 57 hotels in Moscow, Russia. The study found, for instance, that negative comments have a heavier weight in a guest’s rating of a hotel than do positive comments. This uneven weighting means that a simple average of positive and negative scores may not provide a clear view of guests’ opinion of the hotel. This finding also underlines the importance of consistency, because guests’ bad feelings from poor service generally will submerge their favorable feelings from good service. The study applied a regression analysis to the relationships of 18,106 distinct terms relating to five specific attributes—amenities, experience, location, transactions, and value. i totally agree that hotels should better use tripadvisor to their advantage as this is one of the most popular website when travelling comes to mind. in the new generation, rather than spending lots of time googling about all the hotels and checking 10 different website, people will immediately goes to tripadvisor for whatever information they needed.
hotels should be during tripadvisor for marketing in numerous way. they can either partner with the website and make sure that they will be seen on the good spot when guest are looking for a particular places, this increase the chances that the guest might consider to say in the hotel. other ways are also putting promotion on the website or simply to show the benefits of the hotel in attracting their guest.

it is also mentioned that hotels should be more rapidly replying their feedback on tripadvisor. i agree to that as people love interaction. and if there is any bad experience someone had the hotel would have known and make it up so that the same mistake wont happen again.

The mobile evolution will also begin to shift into other elements of the passenger journey as an estimated 52% of carriers will use self-service tools to solve disruption and other problems with a trip. Tourism Australia has released the latest findings from its international consumer research study, The Consumer Demand Project (CDP). The CDP was set up in 2012 to look into how global consumers view Australia and what motivates them to visit. The research has been conducted annually across eleven of Australia's key markets, with over 60,000 international long-haul travellers via online research panels. The research is used to help shape the future marketing of Australia and identify opportunities to make the country's tourism offering more attractive to overseas visitors. 7 things that small travel providers need to do to compete

7 things that small travel providers need to do to compete | Tourisme Tendances | Scoop.it

Can smaller travel agencies and OTAs compete against market giants? Here are 7 possible ways, from a Swiss travel entrepreneur.

  1. Be personal - travellers are humans and are more likely to trust other human beings over booking engines.
  2. Connect with hotel partners - most hoteliers would rather not deal with Expedia or Booking.com.
  3. Be communicative - small OTAs have the same policies as Booking.com and Expedia but this message needs to reach the target audience.
  4. Be trustable - include logos and affiliations, satisfied client reviews and rating, and talk about your history.
  5. Find alliances - Synergies can be achieved through customer services and IT companies.
  6. Personalise all automatic software - personalised messages can easily be created with chat software like Intercom.
  7. Find your niche - identify your forte and try to be the best in that slot.

How China's travellers are reshaping global marketing strategies

How China's travellers are reshaping global marketing strategies | Tourisme Tendances | Scoop.it

Chinese tourists make more than 100 million overseas trips a year, but marketing to this lucrative group starts long before they leave China. Clever brands are engaing sophisticated activations through popular social app WeChat in the average four to six-week research period prior to travel and then retargeting travellers once they arrive at their international destination. Marketing to this unique consumer group is not new - but the changing characteristics of the Chinese traveller is. It is now essential that a marketing plan incorporates a personalised digital strategy customised to the young, digitally savvy and independent Chinese traveller. Find out more.
