Warren County New York tells tourists: "Come shop here"

Warren County has the lowest sales tax in New York state, and county officials have begun a marketing campaign promoting that fact.


The county recently placed a link on its tourism website touting the fact the county’s 3 percent sales tax is the lowest in the state. Several other counties in the region — including Washington and Saratoga — also impose a 3 percent tax on purchases, but none are lower and 57 others across the state are higher.

Crediting an influx of marketing cash from oil giant BP, tourism officials on Monday said 2011 was a banner year for New Orleans, with 8.75 million visitors spending a record-breaking $5.47 billion. Mayor Mitch Landrieu cited a new study by the University of New Orleans Hospitality Research Center that showed a 5.6 percent increase in the number of visitors compared with 2010, and $180 million bump in spending.

Indiana Tourism trail program to expand

The Indiana Office of Tourism Development is seeking grant applicants for a program that aims to market themed "trails" to tourists.

 

This is an extension of the state's Indiana Artisan program, launched in 2008.

Under that program, the state funded eight trails, each built around artisans in a particular region of the state. For instance, an Indiana Glass Trail includes glass makers and museums in east central Indiana. A Nickel Plate Arts Trail in Hamilton and Tipton counties showcases visual and culinary artists located near the route of the historic Nickel Plate Railroad.

City to rename tourism agency 'Choose Chicago' | Tourism Social Media | Scoop.it

Chicago's main tourism agency will rebrand itself as "Choose Chicago" this year, convention officials were informed Tuesday morning.

The new name will apply to the soon-to-be-merged operations of the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau and the city's tourism office, a combination announced recently by Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
