Is mobile technology making it more difficult for airports and airlines to define their own passenger experience?

Is mobile technology making it more difficult for airports and airlines to define their own passenger experience? | Tourism Social Media | Scoop.it

There can be no disputing the fact that since the launch of the first generation iPhone almost seven years ago, smartphones have played a major role in redefining the airport experience and empowering passengers in a way never before possible. Having previously relied on airports and airlines as the sole source of travel-related information, all of a sudden passengers could pro-actively take it into their own hands, quite literally, to access the information they want exactly when they need it.

Curtis Carlson Nelson following the story of Facebook emerging as an online travel booking threat.

Kwok Sum Yue's curator insight, May 19, 12:00 PM
with the increase of the use of social media by people around the world e.g. facebook, it is not surprise that these kind of social media will be used as a online travel booking medium. people all share their stories on facebook nowadays and that gives a good platform for people to review their experience at a particular hotel or places. and more people can have access to these good or bad reviews as there are so much people on facebook, 'world of mouth' will be spread in a much quicker way than traditionally

moreover with all the different function on facebook, it allows travel booking website to do their marketing in a lot of ways such as sending out vouchers or putting their ads on facebook

i totally agree that hotels should better use tripadvisor to their advantage as this is one of the most popular website when travelling comes to mind. in the new generation, rather than spending lots of time googling about all the hotels and checking 10 different website, people will immediately goes to tripadvisor for whatever information they needed.
hotels should be during tripadvisor for marketing in numerous way. they can either partner with the website and make sure that they will be seen on the good spot when guest are looking for a particular places, this increase the chances that the guest might consider to say in the hotel. other ways are also putting promotion on the website or simply to show the benefits of the hotel in attracting their guest.

it is also mentioned that hotels should be more rapidly replying their feedback on tripadvisor. i agree to that as people love interaction. and if there is any bad experience someone had the hotel would have known and make it up so that the same mistake wont happen again.
