What are the most discussed travel topics on Internet forums? [INFORGRAPHIC] | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
The Internet is a vast and complicated place — especially in the depths of the many travel forums that exists across the Web.
Allianz has done some legwork to parse the most discussed travel topics on Internet forums to reveal what users are talking about, and how that changes depending on the nationality of the user.

Keeping up with demand in the Asia Pacific

Keeping up with demand in the Asia Pacific | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

The latest edition of PATA's Connected Visitor Economy Bulletin examines airport infrastructure and keeping up with demand in the Asia Pacific region, providing three scenarios based on changes in Asian airline capacity per capita. The report confirms that the focus of growth in the aviation industry is shifting east, with IATA expecting China to overtake the US as the world's largest passenger market by 2030, with passenger volumes expected to reach 1.3 billion. Some of the largest airports in the US handle more than three times the average hourly departures than the top 25 Asian airports. Given that these Asian airports will need to handle much of the future demand, it is inevitable that runway utilisation will need to increase. The importance of China as a market is demonstrated by the fact that twelve of Asia's top 25 airports are located in China. Click here to download the report.

Asian destinations dominate the list of most visited cities

Asian destinations dominate the list of most visited cities | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

More than half of the 20 most visited cities were located in Asia in 2013, according to the latest data released by Euromonitor International. The same three cities - Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok - led the list in both 2013 and 2012. The growth of outbound travel from China heavily influenced the list; however, Euromonitor suggests that the United States' strengthening economy could shift current trends. Cities in neighbouring countries to the United States such as Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean will most likely see growth in U.S. travellers. Western European cities will likely benefit too, thanks to strong cultural positioning and historical ties to the U.S. Click here to view the complete list.

Bpifrance a réalisé, avec la FING, un vaste travail de redéfinition de l’innovation afin d’adapter ses dispositifs de soutien aux jeunes entreprises. Quietly, quietly, a Chinese online travel giant prepares to take on the world

Quietly, quietly, a Chinese online travel giant prepares to take on the world | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
Last week’s announcement that “Ctrip.com has partnered with Amadeus to power its global expansion” has largely gone unnoticed, despite some very clear indications that this could be a significant moment in the evolution of online travel.
Ctrip’s has not responded to requests for interviews nor written responses to emailed questions. Amadeus was more forthcoming, in its carefully worded way.
The clues are all there in the release issued by Amadeus’ Singapore office. Ctrip itself appears to have said nothing officially other than a quote in the release and a bylined blog post on Amadeus’ corporate site from Xiong Xing, CEO of Ctrip’s Air Ticketing Business Unit, Ctrip.

The real innovation in hospitality is in new processes rather than in technical gadgets

Mobile platforms in particular are becoming more and more important in the travel industry, and, at the moment, the hotel sector is being completely turned on its head – not by gadgets – but by new processes.
As David Ruetz, head of ITB Berlin, put it: "At the moment, the innovation seen in the travel industry is not so much about products, but really all about processes." This view is shared by Uli Pillau, managing director of hetras, who also believes that travel technology is currently one of the most important innovation drivers in the global travel industry. In his words: "Mobile platforms in particular are becoming more and more important in the travel industry, and, at the moment, the hotel sector is being completely turned on its head – not by gadgets – but by new processes."

Sustainable Business Travel Programs Increasing in Europe

Sustainable Business Travel Programs Increasing in Europe | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
Most of European based companies (57%) have written sustainability initiatives into their company’s travel policy, according to a new study on sustainability in travel programs conducted by the research and education division of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Foundation.
This represents a significant increase from 39% in 2012, and is mainly attributable to the financial benefits, and security and safety enhancements that are provided by the programs. The study also discovered that more United States companies are integrating sustainability programs into contracts (from 11% in 2011 to 19 %), but they are still lagging behind their European counterparts.
