Customisation, freedom and the next phase of luxury travel

Customisation, freedom and the next phase of luxury travel | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

It's not enough for luxury tour operators to build pricy, exclusive travel experiences anymore. Shifting consumer behavior has led to the need to develop a diverse set of products while anticipating consumer demand years ahead of time. For companies like Cox & Kings, which has been operating for over 250 years, growth in the luxury market has been an opportunity for expansion into new destinations and tailoring experiences for specific clients. While best known for safaris and trips to the extreme reaches of the globe, the company has been pushing into more urban products, especially in developing countries. This Skift interview with Cox & Kings' president of the Americas discusses the line between customisation and freedom for luxury travellers, how the tour operator decides to expand into emerging destinations and why luxury travellers still depend on travel agents. What are the world's top 100 city destinations? | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

Euromonitor has released the annual Top City Destinations Ranking of 100 of the world’s leading cities in terms of international tourist arrivals. Arrivals continued to grow in global urban centres in 2014, illustrating the continued economic importance of tourism to the world's cities. Asia remained the dominant region for city tourism, with over one-third of the top 100 cities being located in Asia in 2014. The growing number of outbound Chinese travellers hugely influenced the rankings, with Hong Kong, Macau and Taipei benefiting greatly from these visitors. Improved flight connections from China and relaxed or no visa restrictions for Chinese visitors are assisting in the march up the rankings of these Asian destinations. Find out more.

Asian travellers seek value, air-con, culture in 2016

Asian travellers seek value, air-con, culture in 2016 | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

A study commissioned by online review and booking site TripAdvisor has revealed several key preferences of Asia's travellers in 2016. One of the topline findings show that value is of utmost importance with one in four Asian travellers having chosen a destination due to cheap flights. Meanwhile 67% will not consider a hotel without airconditioning, making it the number one deal-breaker for booking decisions. Lack of in-room Wi-Fi comes second with 46% of travellers saying they will look elsewhere. For Asians, a destination's culture is the most popular reason cited when considering where to take a trip, with 42% responding so, while globally, more than one in two travellers cite special offers as the key decision driver.
