Independent Hotelier's Big Data Vs. Real-Time Data Conundrum - By Max Starkov :: Hospitality Trends

Independent Hotelier's Big Data Vs. Real-Time Data Conundrum - By Max Starkov :: Hospitality Trends | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
In the new environment of OTA consolidation and rate parity removal in Europe, the market share dominance of the OTAs can seem like a colossal problem with no real solution. However, independent properties have a wealth of digital technology and data tools already available to them that gives them the means to outsmart the OTAs and differentiate themselves from their competitors, all while generating serious direct revenues.

Alain Wagener's curator insight, December 3, 2015 4:10 AM

Chinese visitors spending $21m a day in Australia

Chinese visitors spending $21m a day in Australia | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

Chinese visitors splashed out an incredible $21 million a day while holidaying in Australia in the year to September, for a total spend of $7.7 billion. The astounding figure surpassed all expectations with Tourism Australia originally forecasting Chinese spending would reach $7.4 billion in 2020. The quarterly snapshot of overseas visitors down under also showed double digit growth in tourists from India, the US, Hong Kong and Singapore, and an overall rise in spending of 13% to $34 billion for the year to September. The weaker currency and the "Bindi factor" are thought to be helping to lure more Americans to Australia following on from the Sunshine Coast teenager's success in the US Dancing with the Stars.

2016 travel trends for baby boomers | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
A new survey provides some great insight into how American baby boomers want to get away in 2016, from desired destinations to lodging options to favorite trip planning tools.
"The vast majority of Baby Boomers are planning to drive, fly or set sail on leisure trips in 2016, with an average of 4 or 5 trips already in the works," said Stephanie Miles, VP, Products & Platforms, AARP. "Boomers make up a large segment of the traveling public, and so it's particularly important for the travel industry to be aware of what Boomers are looking for in their vacations going into 2016. This new survey finds that their travel desires often differ greatly from younger travelers."
