Can Big Data Help Us Travel Better?

Can Big Data Help Us Travel Better? | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
There are hundreds of hotel booking sites online. They all have their own method of matching customers with options. There are basic options, like how many bedrooms for less than $200, and users will still end up searching through several pages before finding the right offer. Generic offers and bad results may be a thing of the past with big data. Travelers only care about having a good trip, and companies leveraging big data are going to make customers very happy.

Booking behaviours of UK, German and French business travellers

Booking behaviours of UK, German and French business travellers | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

A GBTA Foundation survey of business travellers based in Europe's three largest business travel markets - the United Kingdom, Germany and France - shows that 3 out of 5 travellers in each country booked a business trip through a traditional channel while a similar share used an alternative channel in the past year. Of those who had access to a corporate online booking tool, roughly four out of five used a traditional channel while about half used an alternative channel in the same period. The survey, Booking Behaviour: The Business Traveller's Perspective, also revealed differences by company size and travel policy. Find out more.

Taking photos more important than making memories for holidaymakers

Taking photos more important than making memories for holidaymakers | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

Australian families are taking more photos than ever before while on holiday, but reminiscing less about the actual trip, new research has revealed. The Australian Holiday Memories report commissioned by the Singapore Tourism Board showed that Aussie families are taking an average of 77 photos a day, but an obsession with social media means they are failing to live in the moment and are quickly forgetting the trip itself. According to the study, 67% of parents think that holiday-goers spend too much time staging photos and posting updates and images on social media rather than living in the moment. Meanwhile, 25% of parents admitted they spend consideration time trying to create the perfect holiday picture for social media. Find out more.

An Uber Point of View on Airbnb

An Uber Point of View on Airbnb  | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
As of this writing, my home city of Toronto has been locked in a bitter, years-long feud between the established taxi
companies and Uber, with legislation moving back and forth through the halls of municipal government. The taxis'
position is that Uber drivers don't have to go through anywhere near the same number of legal hoops (read: upfront
expenses) in order to serve customers, all while Uber drivers simply keep on driving.
