One-third of millennials watch no broadcast TV - study

One-third of millennials watch no broadcast TV - study | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
Several studies have been released in recent months that suggest that "cord cutting," or dropping traditional pay TV service in favor of Internet-based alternatives, is no longer only a niche phenomenon.

Via Mattia Nicoletti, Alberto Gago
Andrea Rossi's insight:

"Research from the New York Times presented at an Oct. 10 "audience monetization" summit shows that as many as one-third of "millennials" (people born between the early 1980s and early 2000s) watch no broadcast TV whatsoever. Instead, the research shows that these people "mostly" watch video online."

Booking behaviours of UK, German and French business travellers

Booking behaviours of UK, German and French business travellers | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

A GBTA Foundation survey of business travellers based in Europe's three largest business travel markets - the United Kingdom, Germany and France - shows that 3 out of 5 travellers in each country booked a business trip through a traditional channel while a similar share used an alternative channel in the past year. Of those who had access to a corporate online booking tool, roughly four out of five used a traditional channel while about half used an alternative channel in the same period. The survey, Booking Behaviour: The Business Traveller's Perspective, also revealed differences by company size and travel policy. Find out more.

An Uber Point of View on Airbnb

An Uber Point of View on Airbnb  | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
As of this writing, my home city of Toronto has been locked in a bitter, years-long feud between the established taxi
companies and Uber, with legislation moving back and forth through the halls of municipal government. The taxis'
position is that Uber drivers don't have to go through anywhere near the same number of legal hoops (read: upfront
expenses) in order to serve customers, all while Uber drivers simply keep on driving.

Korea as global tourism destination

Korea as global tourism destination | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
International tourism has rapidly expanded over the past 60 years to become one of the fastest growing sectors of the world economy. The year 2015 was yet another record-breaking year for global tourism. The U.N. World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) reported that international tourist arrivals grew by 4.4 percent in 2015 to reach a whopping 1,184 million. The total impact of the tourism sector on the world economy in 2014 was approximately $7,580 billion, or 9.8 percent of world GDP. As the economic outlook for the near future remains bleak, the robust performance of the tourism sector provides the global economy with much-needed vitality and thus greatly contributes to worldwide economic growth and job creation.

Customisation, freedom and the next phase of luxury travel

Customisation, freedom and the next phase of luxury travel | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

It's not enough for luxury tour operators to build pricy, exclusive travel experiences anymore. Shifting consumer behavior has led to the need to develop a diverse set of products while anticipating consumer demand years ahead of time. For companies like Cox & Kings, which has been operating for over 250 years, growth in the luxury market has been an opportunity for expansion into new destinations and tailoring experiences for specific clients. While best known for safaris and trips to the extreme reaches of the globe, the company has been pushing into more urban products, especially in developing countries. This Skift interview with Cox & Kings' president of the Americas discusses the line between customisation and freedom for luxury travellers, how the tour operator decides to expand into emerging destinations and why luxury travellers still depend on travel agents. Airline passengers on wifi, in-flight entertainment and on-board activities | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

A study by the Airline Passenger Experience Association has indicated the lengths carriers may have to go to in order to satisfy tech-hungry customers. The organisation asked almost 3,500 regular air passengers from around the world for their opinions on a range of topics, including their overall passenger experience, technology and in-flight entertainment and ticket purchasing. Among the results:

Only around one-third of air passengers were very satisfied with their last flight.Comfort and ambience are considered the most important requirements for an enjoyable journey.Over half (55%) of passengers have downloaded an airline's mobile application.Around 25% of passengers had the opportunity to use a free IFE system of some kind. Most common use of a smartphone during a flight is music (48%), followed by games (42%), email/social media (36%), reading (24%) and watching downloaded movies/TV (16%).
