Millennial parents letting kids be holiday deciders

Millennial parents letting kids be holiday deciders | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

It's been well-documented that mum plays a dominating roll in deciding the family holiday destination but a new survey finds that parents -- particularly millennial parents in the U.S. - are increasingly letting their children pick the holiday spot. A YouGov survey of 2,813 kids (ages six to 18) and parents in the U.S., UK, France, Germany and Spain gave the kids the most sway. The tallies were U.S. (85%), UK (76%), France (86%), Germany (95%) and Spain (94%). But millennial parents are going to new lengths toward letting the children commandeer holiday decision-making. The survey found that 34% of U.S. millennial parents give their children the freedom to make the final decision on where to head for a holiday compared with just 8% of parents 55 years and older in the U.S. Going a step further, 19% of U.S. millennial parents are the most likely to give children full control of where to holiday with the family, compared with just 2% of parents 55 years and older.

Capturing consumer clusters and how they might shape travel

Capturing consumer clusters and how they might shape travel | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

Four have become six as Amadeus revisits its Traveller Tribes study, with the original published back in 2007. Things have definitely moved on and not only in technological advances but also in the economic and political landscape and in consumer behaviour. Today's six segments as laid out in Future Traveller Tribes 2030, i.e. those segments expected to shape travel going forward, are:

Simplicity searchers - people who want ease and transparency in travel planning and are happy to hand over organisation to third parties.Cultural plurists - those willing to immerse themselves in the unfamiliar.Social capital seekers - see being well-travelled as a personal quality and exploit social media to inform their potential experiences and play them to their audiences.Reward hungers - travellers looking for a return on investment of how hard they work.Obligation meeters - best depicted by business travellers who have a purpose for being somewhere at a certain time but are still seeking out experiences.Ethical travellers - they might visit a place for environmental reasons or political beliefs.
