Top 100 Content Marketing Posts of 2014 | Sujan Patel | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

The end of the year is approaching, and before we all start focusing in on our 2015 goals, I think it’s important to reflect back on how far content marketing has come this year.

If you think that all content marketing involves is putting up a few blog posts and hoping your fans will share them, you’ve got to get with the times!  Content marketing isn’t some passing fad, and it’s much more than simply creating content for the purposes of driving traffic.  As SEO and other traditional digital marketing techniques change and evolve, content marketing will continue to play a bigger and bigger role in successful online marketing campaigns.

An interesting piece on the power of social profile data, behavioural data and stage of life data. Far more powerful and targeted. I particularly like the reference to Psychographic profiling where you consider the 'mental model' of the consumer in the context of a customer lifecycle.

Here's How to Win California's Burgeoning Tourism Account | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it
Needless to say, California as a destination sells itself. Andrea Rossi's insight:

"State's $26 million budget could triple in size" "That amount could increase if the California Travel and Tourism Commission receives a requested increase in funds that could double its annual operating budget to $100 million." (Cit.)

HyperCities - Explore Historical Layers of City Spaces

HyperCities - Explore Historical Layers of City Spaces | Tourism Innovation | Scoop.it

by Carmen James

"HyperCities is a dynamic educational project at the intersection of cartography and information visualization, humanities and technology, geography and digital space. The project has produced grounded cultural narratives in 27 international cities. HyperCities uses Google Maps and Google Earth (among other technologies, like GPS-enabled cameras and cell phones) to allow users to explore historical layers of city spaces. Accessing the cities and exploring them is straightforward. Once a city has been selected, users can select the time period or the area of the city they are looking to explore on the map. Within each frame, users can access everything from scholarly content to community-generated content. Users can also click on historic sites to learn more about them and overlay older maps of the same cities."
