5-Stars from me!

Crown Audio's insight:

"I've been using this amp to run sound for my bands for a few years now. Have yet to have an issue of any kind. And I am now running sound for other bands, and have been getting excellent reviews from the bands on their sound and volume level.

The last gig was for a Southern Rock band, in an outdoor setting, and this single amp (1 channel mains, 1 channel monitors, 2 Ohms each side) had enough balls to make people get right into each others ears and yell to talk to each other.

Expanding my PA system now, as more gigs are lining up. DEFINITELY buying more of these!"

XLS1000 Amp Amazon Review

XLS1000 Amp Amazon Review | Crown Amp Reviews | Scoop.it
Crown Audio's insight:

"Through the years I have purchased many items from Amazon...CDs, books, computers, tablets and various electronics. To my knowledge I have written only a few reviews. I am the type that expects the products I buy to match up to my expectations and feel no need to express my opinion unless some item is truly bad and I feel the need to warn others, and that has seldom happened. But now I have a product that so completely surprised me with its quality that I am compelled to write something in praise of it.
I have been an audio nut for decades. I have owned many different pieces of gear in a never ending search for great musical sound. Now that i am retired and live on a reduced income I no longer can afford expensive gear and have to live within my means. I own a very excellent Peachtree Idecco which is a great DAC, headphone amp, preamp and amp in one box. I highly recommend this item. But it has only about 30 watts per channel into 8 ohms which is not truly sufficient to drive my 84db efficient speakers (Ellis Audio) to my satisfaction. So I have been looking for a good external amp to feed from the pre-amp outs on the Peachtree. I spent many months looking at reviews and blogs.

A while back I started looking at the information about the Crown XLS series of amps which are made and marketed for professional DJs. My concern was would one of these amps work in my home audio system? I finally took the plunge and ordered the least powerful model as I figured it would still be enough to properly drive my speakers. If it did not sound good enough for my ears I would return it and continue my searching.

Well I am surprised. This amp is excellent. I am very happy with its lack of sonic character. That is right...lack of character. It sends the signals from my pre-amp to my speakers without adding any sound of its own. It is not dry, not warm. It just does the job with no distortion. From six inches away from the speakers when no music is playing it is dead silent. The music comes through with grace and clarity and the bass is very strong while the treble has no grain in human voices which sometimes mars amps not properly made. My Peachtree has a tube in the signal path so I get a slightly warm sound sent to the Crown which is transfered to my speakers untouched.

To demonstrate how accurate this amp is I played several old CDs from the 1980s which were poorly mastered and I knew in advance were harsh sounding. They sounded very harsh still. You can't really fix a poorly done recording. When I put on newer, well done recordings (such as Chantel Chamberlain and Madeleine Peyreaux) the results were stunning.

This amp will not accept spade endings on speaker wire, but I purchased a cheap adapter to use the banana plugs and this works just fine.

The only "negative" I can mention is that at low listening levels it does not resolve music quite as well as some more expensive amps designed solely for home use. Some details get lost, but it is still good. At moderate to loud volumes the amp shines. I consider my $291 to be well worth it."

XLS 1500 Review

XLS 1500 Review | Crown Amp Reviews | Scoop.it
Crown Audio's insight:

"Great amp so far... took a chance using this amp for powering my mains in a Home Theater set up. The inputs are plenty sensitive and works great with my Denon 3313. I even managed to get the input levels balanced out so there is virtually no speaker hum without adding a filter. GREAT clean power, really brought my speakers to life. Best of all is the fact that digital amps generate NO heat!! I have cranked 2 channel stereo at reference levels for extended periods of time and the internal fans have not even thought about turning on yet. Saved huge money going this route vs buying a traditional HT Amp."

Crown XTi4002 1200w Per Channel @ 4 ohms Power Amplifier

Crown XTi4002 1200w Per Channel @ 4 ohms Power Amplifier | Crown Amp Reviews | Scoop.it
Crown Audio's insight:

"Incredibly stable and powerful, this amplifier leaves me with no doubt that I'll be rocking it for years to come. The built in fully customizable equalizer is like nothing I've see for this style of amplifier. Using software supplied free from Crown online, you can connect via USB to this amp and set the frequency bands you want to adjust and then scale each one to your speakers or listening tastes. If you purchase a USBx controller from Crown, you can do all of this adjustment wirelessly and even from an iPad or iPhone from 50ft away! If you're looking for a rock solid amp with incredible flexibility than look no further!"

Super clean, zero hiss

Super clean, zero hiss | Crown Amp Reviews | Scoop.it
Crown Audio's insight:

"The sound from this power amp is impeccable. Absolutely no hiss at full volume, but I rarely push it past 7. We use it at 2x215W to run a pair of 8 Ohm JBL SF15s and Peavy PVM12 floor monitors in our live room, and I have been blown away by the improvement in sonic clarity and overall power. I used a Mackie 808 PA mixer for years to do the same job...I kick myself for not investing in this sooner. Ikes Taylor, thank you for the recommendation."

XLS1000 Review on Musician's Friend

XLS1000 Review on Musician's Friend | Crown Amp Reviews | Scoop.it
Crown Audio's insight:

"I originally purchased a competitor's amp, which proceeded to quit in less than 30 days under minimal, light use. Musician's Friend happily exchanged it for another... which did the same thing. This Crown amp was a bit more money, but had a reset button the other didn't. I've owned it for several months now and I don't have to worry whether it will power up or not! The ability of this baby is incredible. I have it pumping through a pair of Peavey 115s, less than halfway up on both channels and it shakes the windows!!! I love the crispness and quality of the sound. Most of all, the lightness of this amp is outstanding for someone like me whose body ain't all it used to be. I will be purchasing a second as a back-up just in case, but am not worried about NEEDING it. :D"

XLS1000 Review

XLS1000 Review | Crown Amp Reviews | Scoop.it
Crown Audio's insight:

"I returned an amp that was twice the price and listed as much more wattage than the Crown XLS1000. I thought I would give this a try as the reviews were great, and I am glad I did. I am running two 8 inch outdoor rock speakers via an iPhone and this amp pushes them nicely. Even at max volume, there is zero distortion or clipping which was not the case for the much more expense amp I returned. The bass is just right and there is more than enough volume to wake up the neighbors. I am a fan and will definitely be back for other Crown products in the future."
