The park area varies within an altitude of 492 feet (150m) to 2673 feet (815m). This region is home to the 700 species of wildlife, 43 species of mammals, 544 species of birds, 17 other species of reptiles and 126 species of fish have been recorded in the park. Whereas species of butterflies is not yet surveyed. Endangered species like One Horned Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger and Gharial Crocodile are the main attractions of the Chitwan National Park. Two third of the reserve area is covered with sub-tropical forests and one third by grassland. The 54 sq.km area of grassland here is the largest one in the country. Along with this, the wetlands, river beds, lakes, ponds is a sanctuary for wide range of faunal species. The reserve highly protects various threatened animals including high-speed hare, pygmy hog, Snow leopard, Bengal tigers, rhinos, crocodiles, wild elephants and swamp deer. The sanctuary is home to 268 species of bird, six species of mammal. Nepal’s largest breeding population of Bengal floricans and hispid hare is found in Shukaphanta Wildlife Reserve. The swamp deer in the reserve’s grasslands is the largest in the world. The undisturbed lush jungles of Shukaphanta Wildlife Reserve is perfect for the Jungle Safari. This is a great opportunity for all those wildlife enthusiasts. You can explore the wilderness of this reserve in three different ways- on the back of the elephant, in the jeep, as well as the on foot. You can observe various migratory birds from October to March which is the best season to explore this reserve. The reserve is extended to an area of 175 sq. km. Beside wild buffalos KoshiTappu Wildlife Reserve is widely popular as the finest site for bird watching. The vast areas of wetland,barrages,marshes, lagoons, mudflats, river channels create a suitable sanctuary for various birds as well as other faunal species. More than 450 species of birds are available in this region. Every year around November to February large flock of migratory birds move from Siberia and Tibet to this area. This is the perfect time for bird watching. Walking on foot, sightseeing, photography is widely popular here.On a clear day the surrounding scenery is highly spectacular with a rewarding view of Makalu I (8,463 m), the fifth highest mountain in the world.

Founded by Gopal dynasty, the Kathmandu valley was once a large lake and Swoyambhu a lotus which was drained out by Manjusree by cutting the hills at Chovar. The neighboring cities of Patan and Bhaktapur compliment the Kathmandu. These three cities are the residential areas of Newar community and highly popular for its significant arts and architectures. Listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, Lumbini is visited by 400,000 people annually. It was only in 1896 when Nepalese archaeologists discover a great stone pillar at the site believed to be erected by the great king Ashoka in about 245 BC. The inscription identify this as a sacred site as a birth place of Gautam Buddha in 623 B.C. Thus, Lumbini is regarded as a site for great religious as well as cultural value in the world. An important pilgrimage sites for Hindu and Buddhist devotees.The number of temples, including the Mayadevi temple, Puskarini or Holy Pond where the Buddha’s mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth, Sacred Garden where Buddha was born, Asoka Pillar erected around 249 BC, World Peace Pagoda constructed by Japenese Buddhists, monasteries from Theravada and Mahayana Schools, pagodas, prayer rooms and meditation cells are the great attractions of Lumbini. Various beautiful monuments and temples have been built by Myanmar, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia, France, Germany and Sri Lanka.

You can have direct access to Lumbini through Bhairahawa with 35 minutes flight from Kathmandu. Walking or cycling around the Lumbini villages can be great way to know about the lifestyle of Terai communities.
