How to run a company with (almost) no rules

How to run a company with (almost) no rules | Thinking Teaching | Scoop.it
What if your job didn’t control your life? Brazilian CEO Ricardo Semler practices a radical form of corporate democracy, rethinking everything from board meetings to how workers report their vacation days (they don’t have to). It’s a vision that rewards the wisdom of workers, promotes work-life balance — and leads to some deep insight on what work, and life, is really all about. Bonus question: What if schools were like this too?
Sophia Khan's insight:

This is pretty radical - idealistic? - but brilliant as well. Working for and teaching for 'wisdom' and a better way of living by thinking outside the box, turning established methods on their heads, and giving people (yes, children too) the choice on how to evolve their own development and construct their own systems.

Via Darren Burris, Mel Riddile, Phil Chappell
Sophia Khan's insight:

Very useful and immediately practicable. It doesn't take much to scaffold group work a bit and makes such a huge difference to productive, effective work for both students and teachers.

Sophia Khan's insight:

Nathan writes an interesting post of the question of personal data in the modern world. Do we have the *right* as teachers to ask students to sign up for this or that website/app that we want to use in class? Please also check out the site recommended by Mura in his comment: https://tosdr.org/# It summarises the main points on the Terms of Service for most major platforms used at the moment - NO ONE reads the fine print - when you do, it can be surprising...

Sophia Khan's insight:

An interesting conversation recently occurred in David Harbinson's classroom, relating to racial and religious discrimination. How do you handle it when things like this come up in your teaching context? Is it wrong to assert your beliefs over another's? Or is it important to address issues like these head on? And if so, how can you do so in a respectful and appropriate way? David's post is a good example. This is worth reading and considering and could even be used as the basis of a professional development workshop.
