Casa Ceschi by Traverso Vighy

Casa Ceschi by Traverso Vighy | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it
Giovanni Traverso and Paola Vighy inserted a new skeleton of laminated wood into a building in the historic center of Vicenza...

Traverso Vighy's approach to a renovation is to try to tread lightly, to create as little disturbance on their sites as possible, whether in environmental or, as in this case, architectural ones. These projects are therefore careful orchestrations, where many parts consist of pre-assembled elements, architectural objects maintain a marked structural independence, and whose details interact with their surroundings.

Smarter Packaging

Smarter Packaging | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it

New products today often include recycled content, but one thing that’s a given is packaging. All that molded foam, plastic wrap, and corrugated fiberboard has a huge impact: it’s estimated that 30% of landfill is packaging waste.

Eco-smart furniture packaging by Steelcase International: less weight and volume results in lower carbon emissions.

Building the Meta-City

Building the Meta-City | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it

In this video from the PICNIC 2011 conference in Amsterdam, an annual idea exchange that takes place each spring, Mark Rolston takes a glimpse into a coming world where computing isn't just with us, but surrounds us and uses the context of our environment to empower us in more natural, yet powerful ways. According to Rolston, a digital landscape overlays our physical world and is expanding to offer ever-richer experiences that complement—and in emerging cases, replace—the physical experience

Roofing: Strategic Advantages of Green Roofs on Campus

Roofing: Strategic Advantages of Green Roofs on Campus | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it

By now, many American educational campuses have had their first green roof installed. The ability of a green roof to reduce high summer rooftop temperatures, absorb rain storm water and to improve the life cycle of the waterproof roofing itself has convinced institutions to accept a change to the sort of low-slope roofs that they had installed for decades.

Lake Lugano House by JM Architecture

Lake Lugano House by JM Architecture | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it

Italian studio JM Architecture has designed the Lake Lugano House, a 3,700 square foot polygonal glass house built around the lake in the south-east of Switzerland, at the border between Switzerland and Italy.

Great attention is given to the environmental aspects, as the use of geothermal energy, roof gardens, the rain-water collection system, the choice of highly efficient low-emittance glass insulated with argon gas, to optimize the thermal efficiency of the shell and the use of natural sun shading as the placement of deciduous trees in the south-west area of the building.

Hampden Lane House by Robert Gurney

Hampden Lane House by Robert Gurney | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it

The house occupies one third less area than the original structure and is sited to maximise green area on the property. Designed as a cube, the home is 2,200 sq ft with no unused or underutilised spaces. The flat roof provides an additional 1,100 sq ft of outdoor living space with views of treetops and the downtown Bethesda skyline.

Fenestration in the block walls optimizes views to the green spaces while minimising views of adjacent houses in close proximity. A series of landscape walls orchestrate the relationship between the street, required parking court and house. Interior spaces are open and light filled with crisp detailing.

The house is intended to be more site sensitive, environmentally conscious, and to provide comfortable, efficient living spaces...
