High-speed Rail Hubs Attracting Development to Urban Centers

High-speed Rail Hubs Attracting Development to Urban Centers | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it

High-speed rail (HSR) has long been touted as a tool of economic development in addition to its primary function of improving connectivity and ease of travel. Now, high-speed rail also has the potential to contribute to the nation’s urban revitalization trends.

Because HSR and other rail hubs are often located in urban centers, they are attracting an influx of tourism and activity to these cities. The mixed-use and transit-oriented nature of development around HSR hubs further supports the growth of city centers and downtowns.

Hotel development is particularly advantageous around these hubs because of their accessibility to those arriving by rail. These hotels also benefit from the mixed-use environment of urban centers, which provide visitors with walkable access to retail, restaurants, and attractions. Fiera Milano by SDK & Zaha Hadid | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it

The Fiera Milano project is located in the heart of Milan, spanning 106 acres on the old fairgrounds of this historic city. The scheme of Fiera Milano incorporates residential and office development, retail space and a museum all built around a central park, a much needed open space within the city. In 2004 Studio Daniel Libeskind along with Zaha Hadid Architects, and Arata Isozaki & Associates won the commission for the development of the site. In addition to leading the master plan, SDL is designing the contemporary art museum, the central office tower, a residential tower, and the first housing parcel.

Russian River Studio

Designed for a photographer and a writer as a multi-purpose space for painting, drawing, writing, photography, creative dreaming, holiday meals, small workshops, and overflow guests, this 864 SF building with porch and terraced extensions frames the top of the hill above a small existing dwelling. Metal siding, used to better protect the shaded north side, wraps the east end of the house at the transition to the porch-covered entry and wood board-and-batten used on the rest of the walls. Large, colorful wall panels at the interior serve as accents for the otherwise white walls and open to reveal work spaces. The large, light-filled primary space, with polished concrete floors and a ceiling painted blue between exposed wood framing, adapts easily to the changing uses.

18 Kowloon East, Hong Kong, by Aedas

18 Kowloon East, Hong Kong, by Aedas | Top CAD Experts updates | Scoop.it

Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong, once dependent on manufacturing, is undergoing transformation of rejuvenation. With this 28-story mixed-use building located in a community of dense industrial blocks, it begins to investigate the possibility of providing an environmentally sustainable design in an industrial area. The target is to contribute to the greening of the neighbourhood and to enhance the quality of life for building users as well as the pedestrians on the street level.

Extensive planting at the carpark floors, located at the lower portion of the tower, visually greens the neighborhood and also filters and improves air quality.
