3 “Fixes” for Facebook Pages that Don’t Really Fix Anything

3 “Fixes” for Facebook Pages that Don’t Really Fix Anything | Top Social Media Strategies | Scoop.it

Whether it's an odd coincidence or intentional interference by Facebook, many Business Pages are seeing a huge decrease in the number of fans who see their posts.

Facebook's answer to this problem is to provide ways for your fans to choose to see more of you in their news feed. While Interest Lists, Page Notifications, and Pages Feeds may provide opportunities for increased exposure, in reality, it's not likely that they'll address the complaints voiced by Page owners.

Nearly One Third of Online Consumers Trust a Stranger Over a Brand [Infographic] | Social Media Today

It is not often I get to infuse a former 80's pop star's name in one of my columns but Rick Springfield - who in addition to trying to woo "Jessie's Girl", warned us to "Don't Talk to Strangers." Well it would appear that a sizable chunk of online consumers...
Jennifer Herndon's insight:

People don't trust brands ~ well, I can't say that I'm shocked. When I think about big name brands, I don't either. Experience finds that they are self-serving and misleading if there's a benefit in it for them.

Aside from that, there are some really interesting stats in here that should influence your content marketing. My biggest takeaway was that the key to capturing your audience's attention for longer than 3 minutes is using pictures and videos. I know visual content is all the rage, but it's nice to see that notion validated, and it strengthens my belief that video is only going to get more important in any business's marketing efforts.

How To Generate Greater Impact Through Social Media

How To Generate Greater Impact Through Social Media | Top Social Media Strategies | Scoop.it
Global 14 is a social network created by Jermaine Dupri to help build a closer connection with his fan base.
Jennifer Herndon's insight:

Very thought-provoking article and video about Global 14, a social media network created by Jermaine Dupri. His interest is in creating a place where people can have more meaningful engagement with their target audience.

I like this concept and won't be surprised if it catches on. I would think it will have a lot of appeal to a fan base who is dying to get real-life engagement with a "star." As Dupri points out, the new network is a nice work-around of the problems created by the big social networks and their ever-changing rules that you have to follow. As the gatekeepers of the big sites continue to exert more control and come up with more crazy terms of service, there may be a rise in the popularity of this type of platform.

The Top 20 Threats To Social Media Marketing | Jeffbullas's Blog

The Top 20 Threats To Social Media Marketing | Jeffbullas's Blog | Top Social Media Strategies | Scoop.it

Social Media Marketing has moved from an interesting idea to an essential part of the marketing arsenal  in the last couple of years. But still, so many companies resist having a strong social media presence. This article highlights the results of a study done on why companies are still resisting.

The top 20 reasons given all led me to this major conclusion ~ companies NEED a social media manager. They need to be willing to pay big to have an expert do their social media the right way. The barrier to this that currently exists is that most companies aren't willing to pay, and especially not pay BIG, when they still fail to appreciate the value of social media for their business. Time will change this. And the quicker companies realize the value of social media, the better it will be for their bottom line.

Photos on Facebook Generate 53% More Likes Than the Average Post [NEW DATA]

Photos on Facebook Generate 53% More Likes Than the Average Post [NEW DATA] | Top Social Media Strategies | Scoop.it

Interesting study from Hubspot. New data reveals that photos on Facebook Pages generate 53% more Likes then the average post. And, photo posts attract 104% more comments than the average post.

This is probably not surprising considering how visual social media is becoming. 300 million photos are uploaded to Facebook per day, up 20% from earlier this year. And Instagram usage has increased 1,179% in 6 months.  Pretty amazing numbers.

I find this study particularly interesting in light of the fact that a lot of people have been complaining over the last few weeks that exposure for their photos had been way less than for text posts. The feeling is that this is something Facebook is intentionally doing for some unknown reason. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out and whether it's a permanent change for people. Personally, I haven't noticed a difference.

This article contains good advice on what to do as a result of this data.

Some good advice about social media basics here. I was a little uncertain about the title, but the gist of the article is that you need to build relationships with the right market, then send them to your website so they can check out your stuff.  I like the point about making sure you do occassionally make an offer to people. There's a fine line between too much selling and not enough. If you NEVER mention that you've got something of value to sell people, chances are they'll never find it . . .

Chris Westfall | Keynote Speaker | Business Coach | Blueprint for a Great Elevator Speech - Chris Westfall | Top Social Media Strategies | Scoop.it
If you want to influence and persuade others, you've got to have a great elevator speech. Here are the secrets to getting a job, getting a raise, and more.
Jennifer Herndon's insight:

This is a really helpful blueprint for putting together a winning elevator speech for your business. Most people know they need to have one of these, yet most don't. (or if they do, it's not very compelling).

There's a lot of noise in everyone's world these days, so if you don't stand out, you're going to get left behind. And, you've got to "wow" people in the first few seconds or they're going to move on to the next person.

The other thing I like about this blueprint is that it's short and to the point, which means you can have your elevator speech up and running in a few minutes.

The Google+ Long Game Is Brilliant

I'm finding myself using Google+ more and more. I recently decided that the long game Google is playing is absolutely brilliant.
Jennifer Herndon's insight:

I agree with this, Google just keeps adding one great thing after another. And the nice thing is, it all works and it's all fully integrated. One thing Feld doesn't mention in his article is Google Drive, which I find to be a very useful tool. AND, it's right there, conveniently located with my gmail and Google+.

I still feel like, in my world anyway, that people aren't utilizing all of the cool Google stuff to the extent that they should. The Events feature, Hangouts (especial Hangouts on air), and Google Voice are awesome features, but I still don't see a lot of people using them. Time will tell I guess, but Google feels like the wave of the future (if not present) to me.

Why social media strategy should not start with a drive for Facebook fans

Why social media strategy should not start with a drive for Facebook fans | Top Social Media Strategies | Scoop.it
Nearly every corporate social media strategy starts with a drive for "likes," but that may be precisely the wrong thing to do for long-term success.

In the age where everyone seems over-motivated by the desire to have the biggest numbers, this article is a breath of fresh air. The more I hang around on social media, the less I look at the numbers.

There's some great advice here ~ spend more time reaching out and connecting with others, building relationships; and spend less time thinking of ways to get people to press the "like," "follow," or "circle"  button on your page.

Great rundown of what makes leaders in the social media field stand out from the rest. This could probably apply to leaders in general, but is especially interesting when considering social media, where everyone pretty much comes in on a level playing field.

Many of the "habitudes" listed in this article are hard to define or really measure in people. It's more of a "you know it when you see it" kind of thing. If you're looking to be a leader, and/or struggling with how to be unique and set yourself apart from the pack, this list is worth pondering.

On Social Media, They Don’t Have to Follow You to be Listening

On Social Media, They Don’t Have to Follow You to be Listening | Top Social Media Strategies | Scoop.it

Some people have a misunderstanding about what is seen and heard through social media. This applies to personal and business communications. This article makes a couple of especially good points about how any business choosing to ignore social media needs to be careful about how they do it. The takeaway I get is, "sure you can ignore social media, but don't!"

I guarantee there are people "listening" to you on social media who you are completely unaware of. But, your social media presence can get you "noticed" by these people and result in great opportnities for your business ~ or in lost opportunities ~ depending on how you present yourself. The lesson is to always pretend like the world is watching, and your business depends on it.

Using Your Company Blog And Social Media To Drive More Leads | Business 2 Community

Using Your Company Blog And Social Media To Drive More Leads | Business 2 Community | Top Social Media Strategies | Scoop.it

The point I like best in here is don't create weak content just for SEO purposes. A lot of people are getting the concept of content marketing, but are also thinking that they can't be seen unless they make it search engine friendly. Nothing against the search engines, of course they are important, but even Google is strongly moving towards recognizing quality content over keyword-rich junk. And, with social media marketing becoming so powerful, if you can do that right, your SEO concerns become even less relevant.
