Coming close on the heels of Delhi Government’s historic decision to provide a single-window clearance, especially for ticketed events in Delhi, music maestro Zubin Mehta is all set to perform live in Delhi in concert with the Australian World Orchestra. The event which is being produced by Showtime Group will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium’s Weightlifting Auditorium on Oct 30 and 31. Around 4000 people are expected to attend the two-day event.

 

This is the first ticketed mega event to be conducted in Delhi after the recent Government decision. For years, Delhi had been losing big-ticket performances to its neighbours due to a tedious clearance process. The process has been extensively simplified, and agencies can now obtain entertainment tax clearance online.

The Indian Head Injury Foundation (IHIF), founded by His Highness Maharaja Gajsingh II of Jodhpur, is expected to get a great fillip from the 2nd edition of what was acclaimed as a highly successful event in its first edition – Jodhpur One World Retreat, the 3-day star-studded charity extravaganza held at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur. Scheduled to take place between 20th – 22nd March 2015 the fundraising initiative organised by Showtime Events will bring together the globe’s greatest minds from business, entrepreneurship, the arts, science, entertainment and philanthropy in “three glorious days of awareness and awakening, of music and spectacle and of giving and learning”. The sole objective is to support and celebrate the Indian Head Injury Foundation, with the proceeds to be donated to what is increasingly becoming a cause that is resonating with the Indian corporate community in a major way today. In fact, several corporate heads have already registered to donate and participate in the second edition of the Retreat.

 

“The object of the Jodhpur One World Retreat is to raise awareness and resources for the Indian Head Injury Foundation, which I founded after my son’s accident on the polo field some years ago. Guests to the inaugural 2013 edition included HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, who, referring to the Jodhpur One World Retreat, commented “This is not a retreat at all… but a great advance…”  HE Princess Hussah Al Sahab described the occasion as “Three days of sheer joys, spirituality and graciousness… A noble cause brings people together to manifest all goodness in each human being.” Support for the crucial charity comes from all levels and disciplines. Mukesh and Nita Ambani (pictured below) said “The cause of the Indian Head Injury Foundation can count on us”. Cricket Legend Sachin Tendulkar said “Every single life is our responsibility” and commenting on the collaborative effort of the retreat, renowned actress Dia Mirza observed “When great minds come together compelling action can emerge”.

 

The 2015 edition aims to equal, if not go one better on the impressive inaugural edition of the fundraising event. The Taj Group of Hotels and global automotive giant, BMW who supported the Inaugural edition have already come on board to lend their support to the second edition as well.

 

Whilst the event includes a dazzling array of celebrity guests and international thought-leaders, the real star of the show is the Indian Head Injury Foundation. Founded in February 2007, the IHIF mission is to build a comprehensive system in India for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury, and to provide neuro-rehabilitation to such patients.

On October 12, 2014, when the sun went down in the football-crazy city of Kolkata, a new era of football kicked in. After years of planning and postponing, the Indian Super League (ISL) was ready to kick off. Approximately 65,000 people were present at the Salt Lake stadium to watch the opening match between Atletico de Kolkata and Mumbai City FC, while 74.7 million people watched it on TV. India, called a “sleeping giant” by FIFA president Sepp Blatter, was about to witness a football explosion.
As the first season of the Super league reaches a close it is clear that Indian sport has a new champion. Check: many Indian Super League draws as much crowds as a IPL or an ODI cricket match (over 60,000 in Kochi and Kolkata), and at least three players have been paid close to Rs 4 core. Indian soccer suffering from arthritis has finally been injected with a cure-all drug.


Things fell into place when the multi-billion dollar investment came from Reliance and global sports and media group IMG. Star Sports came on board and decided to take Indian football broadcasting to a whole new level. Then came a masterstroke — the owners. Cricket and Bollywood superstars were convinced to invest the organisers roped in cricketing greats and Bollywood stars to back the ISL.
Then the most important part — well known players Alessandro Del Piero, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg, Nicolas Anelka, David Trezeguet, Joan Capdevila, Luis Garcia, Andre Santos and Elano were signed. Although well past their prime, they have atttracted huge crowds as Indians have not seen soccer of this standard. According to AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das. “For the first time, we have families coming for the game. Awareness about the game has gone sky high. ”


From playing in the I-League, the ISL is a welcome change. Delhi Dynamos’ Steven Dias, who at one point was know as ‘India’s David Beckham’, said he never thought twice about joining the ISL. “It’s a completely different experience. It’s more organised. The training methods are far better. During training, we practice match situations. We prepare for each game differently. It’s something that I-League clubs don’t really do. Also, there’s a lot of focus on our nutrition. All these are new to us Indians,” said Dias who said the best part was that he gets to share the dressing room with Italian legend Del Piero. To Indian players get around Rs 80 lakh per season.


Each club has to pay a franchise fee of Rs 15 crore every year for the next ten years. This is small change compared to the cricket leage where the franchise valuation now stands at around Rs 1000 crore for ten years. For the investors the risk was huge considering that the I-League never took off. With the first year’s success, valaution of teams will go up. The total spends of each club each year could be in the region of Rs 50 crore, though no official figures are available.

Nestle India held its annual Sales & Marketing Conference at Hyatt Regency, Gurgaon on 28 January, 2015. In keeping with the first day’s theme – “Reinvent & Win” – Showtime Group produced a set of experiences that took conferencing to completely new levels at this mammoth event.

 

The conference saw participation by a huge contingent of over 2100 of Nestle’s sales and marketing team members across seven business units from all over India.

 

It was truly a conference with a difference – in fact, several of them!

 

The participants were welcomed with an Opening AV which had 3D content projected on a massive 100 feet x 23 feet screen. Multiple doors were integrated into the giant screen which served as the entry/exit route for the session speakers and performers. This was followed by a high-energy dance sequence, announcing the entry of Mr. Etienne Benet, Market Head – South Asia Region, Nestle. Mr. Benet then took centrestage with his motivational address that set the tone for the day’s proceedings. The Sales Awards then followed, with almost ninety of Nestle’s star performers being felicitated under various performance categories. The redefining moments continued with each of the seven Business Units making out-of-the-ordinary, theme-based presentations. Every element of these presentations – right from the backdrop projections to the content and the presentation team’s outfit - reflected the theme which ranged from politics to Bollywood and Formula 1.   To add excitement and interactivity to the day’s fare, each of these presentation sessions had an in-built entertainment quotient ranging from a stand-up comedy act to live news room chat with Arnab, some interesting acts by the employees in politicians’ attire and also a special choir performance by a group of twelve children from Delhi. The inspiration of the participants was lifted further with two drones hovering over them displaying the theme “Reinvent & Win” big and bold.

 

In the evening, the action moved outdoors for the Marketing Oscars awards presentation. Eight outstanding Nestle performers were awarded Oscar look-alike trophies with VIP performing a comedy sequence to add to the excitement. The show culminated with a Gala Dinner and an electrifying two-hour performance by Euphoria.

 

Commenting on the event, Akshay Chawla (Vice President – Showtime) said: “We drew inspiration from Nestle’s unique theme for the conference to completely change the way conferencing is done.

The sheer scale of this prestigious event demanded an extremely tight level of coordination among our team members and also with the Nestle team on the project. In the short time available to us to put up this show, I think we did a fantastic job right from the concept creation to managing the travel logistics of 2100 guests from across five hotels in the city and on-ground execution and we are grateful to Nestle for having given us this opportunity.”
