15 Best Free Stock Photo Websites

15 Best Free Stock Photo Websites | Tools to Try, Sights to See | Scoop.it

Recently I have seen more and more beautiful photos used on websites, themes, design mockups and shots on Dribbble. I don’t know who has started this out but I highly appreciate Unsplash initiative for providing beautiful free stock photos to do whatever you want. I have been inspired by this movement and started sharing some of my best mobile photos on Refe as well.

As a designer personally, I can’t stand ugly cliché stock photos, amateur level pictures and other low quality imagery used in any form of design. I am constantly in search of beautiful photos for my personal and client work and thought that you may find this collection useful....

Ensure That Strategy, not Tactics, Drives Your Social Media

Ensure That Strategy, not Tactics, Drives Your Social Media | Tools to Try, Sights to See | Scoop.it

Social Media - Before you can use a new channel, you must create a strategy around it. But many marketers struggle to create strategies. The rapid growth of social media platforms sometimes outpaces the ability of businesses to get their arms around how best to use it. Before you can use a new channel, you must create a strategy around it. But many marketers struggle with how to create strategies. ...Without a clear vision of the goal you wish to pursue via social media—whether to increase brand awareness or client engagement, or decrease customer support inquiries—you will never get beyond tactical conversations. Why? That conversation is like a rocking chair: Everyone feels great about accomplishing a task—they feel movement—but, as time will surely tell, your initiative ends up going nowhere. So, how can you begin to chart a successful social media route? Map out these five areas....

Strategy and tactics are often either ignored, or confused. It's important to define them clearly and early.

Terry Elliott's curator insight, August 16, 2014 7:26 AM

The image above amounts to a template for curating a digital space:

1. Find something timeless to curate.

2. Fit it into a pattern that makes sense.

3. Find a larger context for why this matters.

4. Share widely.

I think this fits into Harold Jarche’s simpler seek-sense-share framework.

Why does this matter?  If curation is all that Tufte and Bhatt say it is, then why aren’t scaffolds like these being used more often for training and in learning systems?  I am using the curation tool Scoop.it to do curation with my freshman comp students.  They use Scoop.it as their introductory platform  for beginning to acquire the skills  Tufte enumerates above that are part of the academic and business spaces they will eventually live in.  I am hoping they will demonstrate why it curation matters as they seek-sense-share their way to long and short form ‘texts’ that they will be writing all semester. That will include essays, tweets, G+ community posts, blog posts, research papers, emails, plusses, favs, instagrams, zeegas, slideshares, pictures, and a massive mobile presence from their own digital spaces.  Wish me luck.

Ignacio Conejo Moreno's curator insight, February 14, 2015 7:35 AM

"A curator, therefore, whether she is a journalist-by-proxy such as Popova or a student completing an assignment in a classroom, not only collects and interprets, but also creates a new experience with it."

Creo que esta definición zanja la discusión sobre si un "Content Curator" es una adaptación moderna al "Documentalista" de los medios tradicionales.

De muy recomendada lectura para los que nos dedicamos a la Curación de Contenidos.
