Multiple Media Search

Multiple Media Search | Tools for Teachers & Learners | Scoop.it

I have to say that I think Spezify has just become my favourite new search engine. I think this is a really great search engine to use in class with students or to get them to use. It's really simple. It displays all results as images and it searches a wide range of multiple media sources such as video, image Twitter etc, not only text.

Nik Peachey's insight:

Still enjoying this great tool.

Improve your English through film clips

Improve your English through film clips | Tools for Teachers & Learners | Scoop.it

When learning English it's important that you hear as many different accents and types of voices from different ages of speaker so that you are able to understand English wherever you go. This activity gives you lots of opportunity to practice your listening skills and broaden your understanding of English speakers.

Nik Peachey's insight:

This is the first activity I have posted here for quite some time. I hope to be able to find the time to start posting a lot more soon.

Crowdsourcing Knowledge with Students

Crowdsourcing Knowledge with Students | Tools for Teachers & Learners | Scoop.it

I have been playing with a very simple brainstorming and voting website called tricider. The great thing about tricider is that it is incredibly quick and simple to use, and yet it enables users to collect information and opinions from all over the web in a very easily digestible and powerful way.

Nik Peachey's insight:

This is an older blog post but the tool I review in it is still one that I constantly use both in online and face to face courses as well as conference presentations. I've included some suggestions for how to use it with students.

Nik Peachey's insight:

This is a very simple to use web based voting tool. Great way to get instant feedback during lessons or training sessions. It doesn't require any registration and can be set up on the fly in just a few minutes

Leslie Buford's curator insight, May 10, 2013 10:05 AM

The voting 'eggs' in the suitcase, where each needed to be programmed, are obsolete.  Students and teachers can use their web devices to quickly set up polls and other interactive feedback quickly and easily with web based options, of which this is one of the simplest.  For iPad users, check out NearPod, Socrative, or Doceri, each with its own feature ist, to see which works best for you!  It can be difficult to move from traditonal modes of presentation to building interaction into instruction, but I am trying to plan future PD courses using this type of technology.  I would love feedback from teachers and professional development specialists about what works, pitfalls to look out for, and any other resources that you may suggest.

Developing Your Digital Study Skills

Developing Your Digital Study Skills | Tools for Teachers & Learners | Scoop.it

Making the move from our safe and trusted traditional literacy habits to newer digital skills can be quite a challenge, but as teachers I think we are really unlikely to be able to use technology and help our students use technology really effectively unless we are prepared to face this challenge. Technology needs to be more than part of the way we teach but it also has to be part of the way we ourselves continue to learn and part of our everyday professional practice.
